Bearded Emperor Tamarin monkeys make their homes in Central and South American tropical rainforests in regions like the southwest Amazon Basin in Brazil, eastern Peru, and northern Bolivia. They live in open tree-covered habitats. They are known for their funny-looking drooping white mustaches. Their fur is gray and can be dotted with yellow or brown spots. These monkeys are omnivores and their diet consists of both animals and plants. They feed on fruit, nectar, and tree sap. They love insects like locusts, beetles, snails, crickets, spiders, and ants. They might supplement their diets with small reptiles like lizards and tree frogs. These monkeys are most active during the day and are constantly in motion. They are agile and leap from branch to branch. They are social animals and live in groups of two to fifteen monkeys. These groups are led by the eldest female, followed by mature males. They are playful and will groom one another’s fur. Female tamarins give birth to two or three young ones. The care for them is taken on by every member of the group. The rearing of the young ranges from sharing food to playing with them to grooming.

Don't you wonder why they're called "bearded" when they obviously have a mustache? The explanation doesn't make sense.

@DaddyEvil that is one thing even I cannot explain. I looked online and all I got was Emperor tamarins are small monkeys with long, white whiskers that sweep back from the muzzle on both sides and look like mustaches. It is believed that they were named after German emperor Wilhelm II, who also wore a mustache. They have dark fur on their faces and ears, and their bodies are primarily gray with small amounts of gold, white and red. I guess the unfortunate word bearded just was left but no appropriate

@RasmaSandra Yeah, that's what I found, too. It's weird. But they're cute as all get out!
