The month ended well for me. With all the money November takes from me (my property taxes and car insurance, plus I give my next-door neighbor something to thank him for basically being my handyman) I really didn’t want to see another bill. Bestill (my car) has been making awful noises since I had new tires put on it, so I decided it was time to bite the bullet, pay the “detailed diagnostic” charge that car dealerships charge, and have it checked out. Bad news: the wheel bearings in the front left needed to be replaced. Good news: it’s still covered by the power train warranty. What a blessing!!! That could have been as much as a thousand dollars. Instead, I didn’t even have to pay the “detailed diagnostic” fee! I’m also thankful we didn’t have much in the way of weather here last night. There were two people killed in Montgomery, Alabama from a tornado. The early reports say there were 29 tornadoes in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. With so many tornadoes hitting at night it’s a miracle that only two people lost their lives, but even one is a tragedy. Here, it was rain (we got about a half an inch) and temperatures falling like Hans Gruber from the Nakatomi Tower. (For those of you who might see that meme about it not being Christmas until Gruber falls from the tower, it’s a reference to the first Die Hard movie.) After reading all the cooking from Sojourner and NJ Chic I bought a slow cooker today. My first brew in the crockpot will be potato soup. My recipe: potatoes and chicken broth. We’ll see where it goes from there, but you gotta start somewhere. I was crushed to see that Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie passed away today. She was the female vocalist in that band as far as I’m concerned. And yes, you’re reading that inference correctly: I don’t really care for Stevie Nicks. I like some of her songs (“Silver Spring” especially), but to me McVie had a much more pleasant vocal style. I know I’m in the minority in that opinion, but what else is new. I have a free lunch tomorrow at Mark’s Feed Store (they have “frequent lunch” cards: buy six, get the seventh one free [Chuy’s also has one]). Their smoked turkey is absolutely out of this world!!!! I hope y’all have a great evening, morning, end of November, and/or beginning of December!! (The car is a 1970 Honda on display at the car dealership. Way too small for my tastes. )

Potato soup sounds like a good start to me. What's going to be second on the list?

@RebeccasFarm — this didn’t take very long. It cooked while I took my nap. Of course, it was just potatoes and chicken broth, so how hard is that.

I don’t know if they had different models back then….”Honda Small, Honda Smaller, Honda Smallest” based on the old cars they have on display there. I haven’t made it to Mark’s yet. Good thing, though, because I just made some potato soup in my crockpot and I can enjoy the leftover turkey from my meal with it for dinner!

Glad to hear about your car warranty! I'm glad you are safe and sound; but I'm sorry that two lost their lives. I love Christine McVee. I think I might have a CD of her solo work. Smoked turkey sounds dee-lish. Have a great evening.

I’ve had smoked turkey at a BBQ place twice, and both times I felt like I was orbiting the moon when I took the first bite. (The other time was that little mom-and-pop BBQ place in Hannibal, Missouri.) The mechanic at Honda said it was a defective part, not anything I did “wrong” to the car. Yes, even Honda parts are bad every now and then.

@FourWalls Surprised about the Honda part; but I'm glad it will be taken care of.

No car expenses. A delayed Thanksgiving thanks for you! That cooker will produce some nice comfort food this winter. Christine's passing was a shock to me too. I do agree, Stevie had the trendy pop hits, put Christine's pop songs were the glue that made for some fantastic albums. I enjoyed reading what a close relationship Lindsey had with her even collaborating together for the last recordings she made. This Songbird will be sorely missed...

When I first got Tusk the ONLY song that stood out for me was Christine’s “Think About Me.” No car expenses is a blessing any time of the year!!!!!

@dgobucks226 — no USC band in the college football playoffs, either, after last night’s thumping by Utah.

Their smoked turkey is wonderful. Change of plans so the turkey will have to wait. Oh, well, no expiration on the lunch card.

Cooking in a slow cooker is awesome, I was shocked to hear about Christi McVie. I didn't realize her age. Good luck with your car. I think November went by quickly!!!!

I was pretty shocked when they said McVie was 79. I agree November flew by. Hope December is that quick, too.

I don't think we've had any tornadoes lately but the winds have been something fierce. I hope I don't blow away when I go out today.

I am glad that the wheel bearings is covered, car parts are expensive. I love small cars, my husband always loved the big ones and he has been stuck many times in the old villages here in Europe... if he only listened to me.

Small cars are the thing in Europe. My car is considered a “compact,” and I think it’s huge. I’d hate to have a “really” big car.

@FourWalls Big cars are a problem in Europe and a BIG problem in small Switzerland. Our roads are narrow, some are steep, a small car is a lot better.

I think that car is ugly, too. I’m glad Hondas have a better look to them now. After lunch I’m going to start a mess of potato soup.

The squirrel food is getting expensive so I’m going to need to start doing survey sites or put the squirrels to work to pay for it.

I'm so sad to hear about Christine McVie. I think "Songbird" was my favorite song that she sang.

You're on a pretty good lucky streak. You should pick up some extra lottery tickets. Potato soup was a great choice. It's one of the few soups I like.
