Winter is really here

We’ve had some weird weather this year. First very mild in March, then cold and miserable in April, a very dry summer with a couple of extreme heatwaves, then an autumn so mild that November felt like September.
Now finally we are having what feels like proper winter weather at the right time of year. This morning it was -4°C (25°F – yes I know that’s quite mild for some readers!) and everything was frozen.
Of course although I’m pleased to be having some more appropriate weather, it does have its drawbacks. Big One’s bicycle brakes seized up and I had to drive her to school, which involved a lengthy process of defrosting the car first. And no sooner had I got there than I got a call from Little One’s school to say she was poorly and could I pick her up again! Neither of those things is directly related to the temperature, but it does make things more difficult.
Now though it is an absolutely beautiful morning, with the sun shining on the frosty plants – including the roses and fuchsias which were still flowering because it was so mild two days ago!

At least Little One didn't have to wait while you defrosted the car to be able to go pick her up. I hope she's feeling better quickly.

@Fleura Did you tell her that should teach her not to get sick after you dropped her off for school?

@DaddyEvil She probably shouldn't have gone, but they were due to go on a trip today so she wanted to go of course, and she did say she felt fine when she woke up. Very disappointing

Frosted ivy leaves look so nice, too bad they won't survive.

Looks like you want it and at the same time you do not want it - the cold I mean with all the defrosting you had to do with your car.

Tell me about it! I don't know what is happening with this weather!
My Mum's friend came round last night to take my Mum to the house group, and she said it was -1° earlier in the day, and even colder then!
I don't like the fact my step-dad leaves his car out. (Well there's no room in the garage, it's full of junk!) But leaving it out in the cold and frost, it might make the car not start. He's already had to get a new battery on Monday.

That can be a problem, although the new battery should help as it should have enough power to start even when cold. I remember many years ago when money was tight, my Dad bringing the spark plugs out of the car and warming them in the oven to help the car to start!

@Fleura Thank you very much. Yes, hopefully the new battery will help.
I've never heard of anyone doing that before!
