I missed my chance!

The last few weeks have been so ridiculously mild that it was far more like September. I was lulled into a false sense of security. I picked the last few tomatoes in November! This is unheard of!
So I foolishly thought I didn’t need to rush to gather all the produce from the garden. I have been busy enough with all sorts of things and I figured the last few vegetables would keep where they were.
That was a big mistake because now temperatures have plummeted. Yes the last parsnips and beetroot will still keep as they are – they will have to in fact because with the ground frozen hard I can’t dig them up!
At least I can still get to the Brussels sprouts.

I'm guessing the Brussels sprouts must have been volunteer. Nobody would plant those on purpose.

@DaddyEvil You just might enjoy mine. I cook them with bacon, Splenda brown sugar and a bit of black pepper.

This weather is driving us all crazy. We have to stop planning anything and do it by ear.

I still have a few carrots in the ground but the ones I pulled the other day were so small. Nice parsnips. I planted some last year but they never came up.

I love parsnips but they are tricky. They take so long to germinate that by the time you realise not many have grown it's too late to sow any more.
One year I sowed a row of seeds and got only three plants - but the parsnips were HUGE! And they were not nasty and woody either, they were really good! This year the results were a bit more normal.
I can't grow carrots though, I don't think they like our heavy soil.
