Woke to the Smell of Bacon Cooking

Normally I am the breakfast guru. Every weekend (except for when I'm out of town on vacation or at paintball tournaments), I get up on Saturdays and Sundays and cook a huge breakfast feast for the girls and I. Eggs, grits, biscuits, bacon, sausage, gravy, pancakes or waffles....I go all out to make a breakfast culinary delight (and besides, it's about the only cooking I can do where I don't burn the place down haha).
But this morning, I was sound asleep and all warm and snuggled in my blankets when I rolled over and thought I smelled bacon. I thought I was dreaming, because I wouldn't smell bacon unless I was the one cooking it. But then I rolled over again and saw that my girlfriend wasn't in bed beside me. So I got up, peeked out into the kitchen, and saw her cooking breakfast. Very unusual for her, and a nice surprise for me. I'm always the one to treat my girlfriend and daughter to breakfast, and I hardly ever get treated to it myself. So this was a nice change of pace, and quite exciting to wake up and have breakfast all ready to eat!
Do any of you get spoiled in the mornings when you wake up? This is something I can get used to, although I don't think it will happen that often.

@moffittjc In about 160 days, I won't have to worry about getting up early anymore.

When I used to get up at 4am to be at work at 5, I would just nuke my breakfast since I always seemed to be running late.

Well, if I lived close by, I would stop by every now and then and cook you breakfast as a nice surprise!

@moffittjc Now, that would be a nice surprise. I don't think anybody ever cooked me breakfast.

Hubby is cooking bacon right now
! But I've already been awake
. He makes breakfast almost every weekend - the only opportunity for him to cook all week. He likes to do the whole pancake or waffle thing too - especially for the kids. Well enjoy your morning treat . . . maybe you should purposely sleep in more often

.

Nice! So your hubby is like me. Cooking breakfast on the weekends is my one chance at cooking (and probably rightfully so, as I'm a bad cook haha). I love making waffles, and every weekend when I make them, I make too much. We have a Mickey Mouse waffle iron, it makes waffles in the shape of Mickey, and the girls both love having their Mickey waffles on the weekends!
Usually I do sleep in, but the girls will often sleep in even a little later. It's like they know I'm getting up to cook breakfast, so they stay cuddled in bed until they know everything's cooked and it's time to get up and eat.

@moffittjc Hubby makes a lot of waffles too! We save 'em so the kids can have 'em during the week (everyone knows I'm certainly not going to make waffles on a school day
). Oh I'll bet the girls love those Mickey waffles
!
I never sleep in
. . . I'm just wired to wake up super early no matter what.

@much2say They do love the Mickey waffles, and are disappointed if I ever make regular waffles.
I’m like you, I’m normally a super early riser, but for some reason I like to sleep in late on at least one of the weekend days.

I always make too much when I cook bacon, for the same reason you do...to keep on hand for BLT's, or for a quick snack, or just whenever I crave bacon.
I had a pack of bacon in the fridge that I cooked before I left for Disney World. I should have put it all in a ziplock bag and took it with us, but instead I just put it in the freezer after I cooked it. I didn't want the bacon to go bad while we were gone, which is why I cooked it right before we left.

@noni1959 I’ve tried bacon ice cream. Wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. Wasn’t that bad though.

@moffittjc Sometimes, I wrap bacon around pork chops before baking or make poppers in the air fryer. Some people make bacon ice cream. I've never done that. I wonder if it actually taste good. Then again, we are talking bacon.

My husband is crazy about eating a big breakfast, quite often. Myself, I want cereal(a donut) and coffee.

My daughter appreciates the weekend big breakfasts, but like you she is more of a cereal freak. She will literally eat cereal all day long.

@moffittjc I started eating cereal for lunch, at times oatmeal. This is to bring my LDL down, and it works:)

@kobesbuddy I use to eat nothing but the sugary kids cereals, but I've switched over to more healthy varieties these days. I really love the Honey Bunches of Oats and the Special K cereals.

You sound like my daughter. She loves her bacon the same way. So when I cook bacon, I usually do two batches, one that is burnt to a crisp how she likes it, and the rest that is cooked normally like how everyone else likes it. haha

@Tina30219 At least there is an easy solution! I don't mind making extra bacon just so everyone can have it cooked the way they want!

Right before we left for Disney World before Christmas for a weeklong vacation, I had a bunch of bacon that I didn't want to go bad, so we cooked it all up, put some in the freezer, and took some to Disney with us.

No, no one makes me breakfast. I'm not a big breakfast eater unless it's pancakes, sausage gravy or something like a quiche. That was nice of your girlfriend to cook breakfast. Have a good week.

Most of my life I was not a big breakfast eater, but then I started realizing how much better I felt throughout the day, and how much more energy I had, when I ate a good hearty breakfast.

That all sounds good! Now you've got me thinking....I haven't had French toast in quite a long time. Maybe I'll surprise everyone and make that next time I cook (I almost said next weekend, but then I remembered that next weekend is Christmas, and I'll be at Disney).

I remember a few times when I lived alone that I surprised myself with cake for dinner. Not as dessert, but as dinner. Those were some really nice surprise dinners! haha

I'm glad your girlfriend wasn't roasting your hide for something you did wrong...
You have to be kidding! Pretty only fixes me stuff when my eyes are sealed shut and then she's only thawed and heated stuff I've made and put in the freezer. If I ask her to make something, she asks what I want and then says, "That sounds good! Make enough for me, too."

And it was for no apparent reason. She said she just woke up and felt like cooking breakfast. Hey, I'm not complaining! I'm going to enjoy this for what it is, because it could be six months, or a year before anyone besides me gets up and cooks breakfast! lol
