You know it’s going to be cold when they’re issuing cold warnings in Mobile, Alabama!
I’m enjoying the sunshine and relative warmth (37F is about 38 degrees warmer than it’s going to be. Hot chocolate is the order of the weekend, along with songs with “cold” in the title. Linda? No.
#9 Ice Cold Love - Benny Martin
One difference in bluegrass and country music is how the legends of the past are honored. Benny Martin could fiddle. OH! how could he fiddle. That’s his great work on Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper’s hit “Come Walk With Me.” (Okay, who am I kidding, you have no idea who Wilma Lee & Stoney are, either!
)
Martin also wrote and sang. This is one of his best-remembered songs.
Unfortunately, in country music he’s one of a million (along with Wilma Lee and Stoney) thrown on the trash heap of “that’s old country, and we don’t want to talk or think about it.” Bluegrass, however, is a different subject (albeit similar music style), and Martin’s music is fondly remembered. A number of acts have covered this song.
I sure remember him!

Yeah, I’m sure a lot of people can identify with ice cold loves. There’s another song with this theme later in the countdown.

Even though Benny Martin is an artist that I have never heard of before, I enjoy his style of music.

I’m glad you liked it. Bluegrass is a lot of fun, to me. There’s another bluegrass song later in the countdown.

That's a fun selection, unfortunately she's "Cold as Ice." Bluegrass music is so catchy even when their singing about a cold heart. Not directly mentioning the word cold but love the song by Gord called "Song for a Winter's Night." Gordon's mellow voice is so relaxing, and those background bells just add to the peaceful feel. One thing these songs do have in common is a longing for their lovely ladies

Don’t you worry, Gord put “cold” in the title of a couple of songs, and he’ll be along shortly.
Bluegrass is so cool because they have all those murder songs that you’re stomping your feet to because of the tempo!

Well put! Glad to hear Gord will be on this countdown. It would be like getting the Cold Shoulder without one of his tunes, lol. Having a song by that Canadian Minstrel on your countdown is better than any ball drop countdown to New Year's. And way more fun

@arunima25 — that’s what makes music “the universal language.” It speaks to everyone, somehow!

Relax, today’s song isn’t country. You won’t know it, but it doesn’t come with a warning.
