Merry Christmas! I hope your day has been blessed, quiet, full of noise or however you wanted it to be.
I had my oldest and family here to open gifts. My youngest and family did something else today. I'll be driving to my son's on Wednesday for a few days.
I opted for a quiet day at home once my oldest left. Just did a mixture of things like bake pies (sent up to the main house), package up eBay to mail Tuesday, catch up on email, watch a few videos and bake a seasoned steak for dinner.
Have you ever watched dumpster diving videos on YouTube? There are three I like to watch and can't believe the items they find. Two do it for resell and one for donations to homeless and other shelters.
Today, one of the divers was finding nice paintings, jewelry boxes, tables, and more from the curbside and old mason jars from the bins. Someone tossed an ice blower, lawnmower, and a nice barbecue grill.
My favorite dumpster diver is Dumpster Diving Mama of 2. Her laugh is infectious. She gives most of the items she finds to different shelters. You can see her finding items and then she shows everything together at the end of the video.
I can't believe the stuff stores toss even before expirations or if nothing is wrong with them. I know it's a write off but why not sell on clearance? She finds sodas, chips, toilet paper, lamps, blankets and so much more.
Do you what different videos on YouTube?

Merry Christmas!
I watch a lot of science type stuff on YT but dumpster diving doesn't fit into that... And I watch friends on YT playing some video games. *shrug*
I hope you have a good evening.

A friend of mine and her daughters do that. They showed me their haul from the five below dumpster. Then they had a yard sale with the items. The thrift store my daughter works at has a lock on their dumpster but it can still be opened a little bit and I saw a guy taking clothes out. They only throw stained items in there so it made me sad his family must really need things. They smell so bad of cat pee it’s hard to walk by them.

@shaggin A friend told me tonight in a text that she was driving down the side of a building and watched a store employee taking a knife to a bunch of shoes. She stopped and asked why they can't be donated, and he said he just does as he's told and not allowed to ask questions.

I certainly don't watch dumpster diving videos on YouTube, but I do have some experience with dumpster diving. Not me personally, but some of my employees. I used to be an assistant property manager for a very high-end apartment complex that catered to rich students at the University of Florida. Since they were buying everything with mommy and daddy's money, they didn't care that they threw away expensive and perfectly good things. The 55-inch tv too small? No problem, call daddy and get a 65-in one, and then throw the perfectly good 55-in tv in the dumpster. Our maintenance staff would have a field day going through the dumpsters every morning. Unbelievable the stuff they would find.

@noni1959 That just shows how lazy people are, that they’d rather throw something away instead of donating it to help others.
Just recently (before Christmas), I cleaned out my storage closet on my back patio and took a bunch of stuff to Goodwill.

Wow! That is crazy. Long ago, when one of my son-in-law's was stationed at Camp Pendleton, they would drive around weekly and find new bikes, TVs, furniture, and so much more and take it back to their garage. My daughter would sell it for extra income or keep what she liked. You would think people would just donate items instead of tossing. I donate a lot.

@moffittjc I took a truck load to Teen Challenge today. It's about 40 minutes from my house but they do a lot of good there. So many use excuses of driving, gas, time....I struggle but also like to gift. I watched a short on FB yesterday showing a man with dollar bills taped over his suit and a sign to take what is needed. People with fancy clothes and purses were taking a lot with one claiming she was getting her nails done with it. Later, a homeless man came up and took two dollars. The man doing the experiment asked didn't he need more and he said no, he just wanted to get something to eat and that is enough to.

Oh I missed this discussion sorry Loretta.
Yes I have seen some of these.
