Smokebush and injections

The photo shows one of the native Australian bushes in Vince’s brother’s garden. We call it ‘smoke bush’ because of the blue-grey colouring which is reminiscent of smoke. I don’t know its botanical name. I have to get a needle in the tummy today – a prolia injection, which is supposed to help guard against osteoporosis. Half my female acquaintances seem to be on this drug and so is one male friend of ours. Does anyone else have these twice-yearly injections? I was chided by my new doctor about this. On my first visit, I was asked what medications I was on and said ‘none’. Later, my records showed the prolia injections and he said ‘you told me you weren’t on any’. He calmed down when I explained I hadn’t thought about injections as medications but of course they are. Anyway, we’re friends again now.

I keep a list of my medications and injections on my phone and whip the list out when I go to the doctor's office.

@JudyEv I'm sorry... I'm really trying hard not to giggle... If I could, I'd help you learn how to use it.

I’ll get,my next prolia injection the sixteenth of January. I’ve taken them for the last few years. I’m taking a thousand units of vitamin D every day preparing for the prolia. Are you taking vitamin D?

No, I'm not taking vitamin D. I try to get out in the sun every day.

@JudyEv I'm out most every day but I doubt I get much vitamin D from the sun especially in the winter. My vitamin D isn't low but my doctor seems to think Vitamin D supports the prolia injection.

First time to hear about prolia. Your doctor was good at detecting that injection in your body. I hope they are available in my country too. I feel that in time I might need those too. I am getting there when back aches and all the pain in the body starts to manifest already.

@JudyEv That is true. It is getting tougher by the day especially when cold season comes they do come out.

I never heard of prolia injection. I do not take any kind of medications, I made a density scan of my bones and it seems I need nothing.

I never heard of this injection. I had a bone scan and my bones are strong. Odd since I have psoriatic and osteoarthritis. I wonder if my doctor will mention something to me soon.

It's good that your bones are strong but it is surprising considering your other conditions.

@JudyEv I was very surprised. Even disabled and with limits, I exercise weight bearing and try to keep up my calcium so hopefully it will continue to be this way. I'm 63 now so we'll see as I age.

Never heard of this, but I wonder why an injection "which is supposed to help guard against osteoporosis" is given in the tummy... I don't think I learned about a tummy bone in anatomy class.

Well, I guess for some of us oldies there is plenty of tummy to choose from. It's interesting that they alternate which side they stick the needle in.

I've been checked twice so far. That was probably every other year too. I have calcium tablets that I'm supposed to take but they are huge. I have to cut them up to get them down.

That's a lovely bush. I just had a bone density test. I have osteopena but not osteoporosis. I take calcium and D3 every day. I haven't had osteoporosis for quite a few years. I'm sorry you have to take the injections.
