My Favorite Emotional Songs- Vol 7

After the holiday season it's not unusual to get a case of the "blues." So, here are some sad titled songs you might remember which should perk up you up if you're suffering those wintertime blahs. Here are this week's playlist selections.
Comments, musings, your own favorite emotional songs and trivia welcome...
1. "Bell Bottom Blues"- Derek & the Dominoes
-Here's a 1970 classic from Eric Clapton and a group of musicians he worked with after playing along with them on George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" album. Sad fact: Duane Allman from the Allman Brothers was one of the musicians who played with Clapton on this song. Tragically, he died in a motorcycle accident in 1971.
2. "Don't Bring Me Down"- The Animals
-A great tune along with other songs of desperation by this band like "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" and "It's My life." You might remember one of their other songs, a ballad called "House of the Rising Sun." It was a #1 hit on the charts!
3. "Don't Bring Me Down"- ELO (Electric Light Orchestra)
-Yes, same title different song. This is the highest charting ELO hit in both the UK and US. Are you a fan of any of ELO's songs?
TRIVIA CHALLENGE
***Now for our trivia music challenge for those who like to play along. See if you can guess these selections. Words in "quote marks" provide valuable clues!
Name this week's tune, artist or facts:
1. This "English piano player" who goes by the "nickname Hercules" does not write song lyrics, but he sure composes great tunes, this one being no exception. A version of this song recorded live "as a duet" between this artist and "George Michael" reached number one in the UK in 1991 and in the US in 1992. The song uses a "setting sun" to convey how "down" the singer feels. This musician is known for wearing outrageous costumes on stage, "appearing in feathers, as Mozart, even as Donald Duck and always wearing his gaudy spectacles." His life and career were dramatised in the 2019 biopic "Rocketman."
-Do you know the name of this "iconic piano player" and his emotionally sad song?
2. "Pre-Road Downs" is a song off "this trios" first "self-titled" album. The three bandmates were members of some really successful bands ("Buffalo Springfield," "The Byrds," & "The Hollies") before joining forces to form this "Folk-Rock Supergroup." Other songs off that first widely acclaimed LP were: "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Marrakesh Express" and "Long Time Gone."
-Do you know the name of this "trio group" who sometimes go by the "initials of their last names?"
3. Bonus: Derek & the Dominoes had a huge hit with another song written by Eric Clapton professing his love for Pattie Harrison, who was married to George Harrison at the time.
-Do you know the name of this song title?
It would be a "real bummer" if you fail to come up with some correct answers. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. I'll be glad to supply one. Or, as Sam and Dave would say, "Hold On, I'm Comin."
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition soon. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned...

@LindaOHio Ha, ha! How could one forget those three guys
Fun fact: Crosby-Stills & Nash were so fond of the Mamas and the Papas' singer, Mama Cass Elliot, that they let her sing backing vocals on this song during the part that goes "Hotels and midnight coaches. Be sure to hide the roaches."
Enjoy- a live version including Young too..

Well, a bit of a "beat down" on #2 & 3.
But you did "bear down" and get the correct answer for #1
#2- They are also known in the music world as "CS&N." Those three played with Neil Young on the famous song about the Kent State shooting called "Ohio."
#3- Very popular 60's song. Considered among one of the greatest rock songs of all-time. The name of it was "Layla."
Yes, I agree. The Animals had some terrific tunes. Enjoy!

Nice comment! EJ has had so many terrific songs it's hard for me to choose a favorite, but I've always enjoyed listening to Tiny Dancer. Fun fact: Elton John loved The Beach Boys harmonies and was influenced by the group on "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me." The tune even contains contributions from members of the group; Carl Wilson and Bruce Johnston both sang backup.
Eric wrote Wonderful Tonight while waiting for Pattie to get ready for an evening out with friends. He also wrote "Layla" a passionate public declaration of love for Pattie before they became an official couple. That song was the answer to #3.
But 2 out of 3 is nothing to get "down about."
Enjoy:

I'm an ELO fan, Two songs at the top of the list are Can't Get It Out of My Head and Mr. Blue Sky.
1. Elton John with Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. Great song!
2. Crosby, Stills & Nash.
3 Layla.
What other group had a song with the title "Don't Let Me Down" and shouted it out from a rooftop?

Hi Ken! Well, you brought "the hammer down" on that quiz

ELO- was a very underrated band in my view. They had a number of hit songs on the charts! I've always enjoyed "Evil Woman" maybe because I've met a few who played with my emotions
That would be the Fab Four also known as The Beatles
They also played Paul's tune "Get Back."
Enjoy this ELO blast from the past. Guaranteed to pick up anyone who's in a "down mood."

A nice effort
Way to "break down" those clues and come up with the right answers. Elton's song was - Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

Thats actually very true, people like dammit I spent all that money and I do not feel any happier and family does not look or acting happier. People can go in major depression.
As far as your song I have no clue but good for you trying to make people smile with a fun game and music usually cheers everyone up.

Appreciate those nice comments.
Yes, finding things to do after the holiday revelry can leave some with an empty feeling. So, providing a little fun contest along with just sharing tastes in music and songs gives one an escape into something cheery. Most people enjoy reading or commenting about music so it's a win-win.
I enjoy doing them, so it provides a stress relief for me too

1. Y’know, I can’t light no more of your darkness. That’s so grammatically incorrect.
He actually changed his middle name from Kenneth to Hercules, which was the name of the last song on side two of Honky Chateau. (Not that I like him or anything….
) I guess it would hurt if the sun went down on you. The weight is one thing, but the heat!!!
2. Dave, Steve, and Graham! Doesn’t roll off the tongue as well as CSN, does it.
3. Eric sings “Layla” and George sings “You can have her, I don’t want her, she didn’t love me anyway.”

Sounds like your 'emotionally spent."
Hercules was an excellent switch of names. It would take a Herculean effort to surpass Sir Elton's catalog of hits
Not that I like his music or anything
I'm in agreement on CSN. Yes, George decided Pattie was no longer "Wonderful Tonight."
Nice job on those comments
