A modern bathroom in an old house

The house we are in at the moment (house-sitting) would be very old. There were originally three bedrooms but a fourth has been added, taking up part of the verandah. What is still ‘old-fashioned’ is that the one bathroom doesn’t have a toilet. The toilet is on the back verandah off the laundry.
One chimney would have served the lounge and a bedroom but there is now only a gas fire in the lounge. Another interesting point about the bedrooms is that only one now has built-in robes. The others have wardrobes and chest of drawers.
The bathroom has been modernised as you can see and the kitchen is also up-to-date with a separate pantry room which holds a fridge and various cupboards.

It looks very spacious. I hope that glass door is opaque. It looks like it is. I wouldn't want anyone staring at me in the bath.

@JudyEv it's probably just one of the cooks peeking at you! Chooks I mean! Might be bad if it was a cook

@JudyEv @snowy22315 In a holiday house we were at in Donegal recently the upstairs facility has a totally clear glass door which meant that as people came through the front door and climbed the stairs they could see whoever was using the facilities sitting enthroned as they climbed towards them. Designed by a pervert one suspects. We put a bed sheet over the door and left it there as a hint at the end of our stay.

@JudyEv I do like old-fashioned houses very much. Some are modernised sympathetically, some not. One we lived in was really ramshackle and made no sense, with rooms opening into rooms and doors that you thought would lead into a bedroom opening into nothingness other than a long drop into the garden. The kitchen was separate from the house and connected to it by a bridge. Picture is of my brother’s ramshackle place in France.

It didn't matter which country we were in, once we left Australia, all the houses were just so different from ours. In general, we found most of the houses in Ireland and England had tiny rooms unless it was a big posh place.
In this one, if you are in one bedroom you have to go through another to get to the bathroom or you can go onto the verandah then into the bathroom.
That's a quaint place of your brother's. It looks to go back at an angle.

@Ronrybs We used to sayy you'd need to take a water-bag. Have you heard of them? Canvas bags that you filled with water and might hang on the verandah. They kept cool because of the air around them. Some hung them from the 'roo-guards on their vehicles. I doubt they make them now.

Our ancestral home I could say has a mix of the old and the new. My niece lives there with her family and obviously modernity sure has found a place.

Blue and white seems very popular at the moment. It always looks clean and bright.

I love the white vanity and yes the bathroom does look spacious and modern. Is it common to have the toilet in a separate area or just the way they modernized this bathroom?

Because it's an old house I guess their choices were limited. But nowadays the toilet, if not actually in the bathroom, would at least be much more accessible.

I like the sink and the unit underneath. Plenty of draws and cupboards to store things in.

When I lived in Vancouver, I used to houseclean for a couple who lived in an old apartment building. The tub and sink were in the front of the apartment just as you got in the door, and the toilet was down the hall off the kitchen, in basically a closet, without a wash basin.

I don't know why that would be. I'll add it here and hope you can see it.

That's a very nice bathroom. But a bathroom without a toilet is quite inconvenient.

I'm sure it is but I'll check it out. There is only the two of us but surely it's opaque!!
Now you've got me worried.
