Dollar General, win?

I have been complaining about the price of eggs for the last few days, because when we went to the Piggly Wiggly a few days ago they had several different brands of eggs but they ranged in $6.50 a dozen to $10.00 a dozen and I wasn't about to pay that for eggs. So when I stopped at Dollar General on my way home, I checked the cooler section to see how much eggs are. I debated it for a few minutes while I bought other stuff and then decided to grab the eggs there, because they only wanted $3.50 for the Clover Valley brand, which is their in house brand. While I was there I also got sugar so I could make some sweet tea, an orange juice for Chris since he isn't feeling good, a gallon of milk (for $4.00) and I perused the clearance section. One thing you'll learn about me, if you don't know it already is - if there is a clearance section, I will investigate it. I have found some amazing deals there. She child is growing and I am always on the look out for comfy clothes for her for when she is lounging around the house. There was one set of flannel pjs in 10/12 which is the size she is going into right now, they were $12 marked down to $3.50. So I grabbed them. They'll be nice and warm and she'll like them. And at that score, I was happy. So I was overall pretty happy with what I got. I found milk for under five bucks and eggs I could actually afford, and got she child a treat for when she gets home tonight.

A few months ago, it seemed it was apparent that there would be an egg shortage and they would keep climbing up in price, so I did some digging and browsing. I use egg replacer from Bob's Mill to bake with, or if what I am cooking needs an egg. At the time I purchased it, it was $3.49 for a bag that equals 34 eggs so it was a bargain. Now I can still find it for $4-$5 per bag. I save the real eggs for the times when one is needed, breakfast, etc. But the egg replacers are great for baking, and also for baking for someone who cannot have eggs at all. I have a grandson who cannot have any eggs or egg products, so my daughter was thrilled that I found those. I also have some real powdered eggs in the pantry, that I can use in nearly anything.

I don't think Chris would like the egg replacer. I mean I may try to order some from Amazon and see if he can tell a difference.

@thislittlepennyearns You do not eat them plain like eggs. Egg replacers are used for baking, or for cooking when you need an egg or two in a dish. Powdered eggs are different, they are true eggs that have been powdered. You measure them, add a bit of water to reconstitute them, and use them however you wish. They can be scrambled, egg replacers cannot.

@Tina30219 Usually by the time we get rid of it, its because its been run through the wringer. We are all pretty tough on our clothes. But we have a couple friends who have kids that we hand down the stuff the kids outgrow.

@kaylachan I think since she got a bath, and ate something else she's starting to feel better. I'll just make sure she goes to bed a little earlier tonight.

@thislittlepennyearns — I stay away from cakes and stuff so I can keep losing weight. Most of the time I eat egg whites at restaurants. Something with an egg ingredient usually won’t hurt me….”usually.”

Well that's gotta suck! Can ou eat cakes and stuff? Or do you have to get eggless mixes?

@FourWalls So its something in the yolk you are allergic to? That's unusual. I mean I've heard of a couple other people that have been allergic to eggs, but it can't be that common. Although people give me crap because I'm allergic to coconut.

You did well. I brought two dozen eggs to our new house-sit but they didn't cost me a penny. I think they might be a bit scarce in our shops at the moment but we haven't been in shops for a week or so now.

Way to go on those prices. There is a Dollar General here. Guess I should stop ignoring that store.
