Enjoying angel peaches at our house-sit

At our house-sit, there is an angel peach tree which has a lot of fruit on it. There is sub tropical variety and one suited more suited to temperate climates. We’ve been told to help ourselves so we’ve been doing just that. The angel peach has a doughnut-shaped fruit which is quite flat compared to the standard peach. We were told the fruit is very sweet and it certainly is. The flesh is white and perhaps softer and more juicy than other varieties. Research says the trees grow to around 3 metres by 3 metres and has very attractive pink flowers. We were here too late to see the flowers but we’re enjoying the fruit. Have you heard of the angel peach? Do you enjoy peaches?

That's true but the nectarines aren't quite ripe yet so we'll miss out on them.

Interesting I have not seen one like that. The ones I see is the regular round-shaped peaches and mostly we see are canned ones and not real fruits. I hope you enjoyed consuming them.

@JudyEv Do they taste the same as the fresh fruit? I have not tried the fresh fruit as they are not common in my place. They are mostly sold as canned peaches and seldom do I see those fruit. I remember seeing that picture as a tomato at first glance.

I've never heard of the angel peach. I haven't had peaches other than the ones we get from Meals on Wheels -- they are canned peaches.

We love canned peaches. With ice-cream or custard, it's one of our favourite desserts.

@LindaOHio Mum always liked freestone peaches for bottling as it was much easier to get the stones out of them. Later, she would basically slice up the other varieties rather than try to get nice halves from them.

@suwardie03 Yes, that's true and the fruit bruise easily so they couldn't be left on the shelves too long.

I love peaches and we had several peach trees at my childhood home, and yes, they bloom a very nice pink. Never heard of angel peaches, though.

@JudyEv So would mine. In fact, we had such a bumper crop the last year there, we had some for the next couple years at the new place. (Yes, my mother carefully packed all her 'cans'.)

@BarBaraPrz Our bottled fruit and jams would last at least the twelve months depending on how prolific the crop was.

Here, we know them as donut peaches . . . although I've seen varieties with different names. We love peaches in general, and we will buy these donut peaches when they are on sale (they're a bit on the expensive side).

@JudyEv I wonder if they are all one in the same though . . . or at least they all taste like white peaches to me. The shape is quite novel though .

Oh, yes! Peaches are my favorite fruit! And yes, That type of peach is called a "Flying saucer" peach here. And yes, they are delicious! (My favorite peaches are a white flesh fruit that is a little bitter when you bite into it but then it tastes soo sweet as you chew. YUMMM!)

@JudyEv I used to live on peaches during their season when I was younger... Now, I'll eat two or three as dessert and maybe one or two as breakfast in season. I wish we had a peach tree on the property here instead of all the walnut trees. I do buy and eat canned peaches, too.

@judyev Peaches are glorious - fresh, not canned in syrup. I had a peach tree growing outside my bedroom window in Africa and the smell of peaches still reduces me to tears of nostalgia. I love the way your photo catches the fuzziness of the skin so well.

Is that a nice way of saying it's blurry? I had to crop it heavily so the definition suffers. My little camera doesn't like close-ups.

I have seen these sort of peaches being sold in the supermarket. I tried some not long ago and I enjoyed them. They are a different shape and the flesh is lighter than a normal peach. They must be a new variety being sold in the UK because I saw them for the first time last year .

I'd never heard of them but it seems just about everyone else on here has so they can't be particularly new - at least not in Australia and the US.

Fresh peaches are one of my very favorite fruits. I know these peaches well, as a friend has a tree that bears these. My family refers to them as donut peaches, but they are called by a lot of different names. They are delicious fresh and they make a great cobbler as well.
