I saw the Tyre Nichols police beating videos

I didn't intend to. I just went to the CNN web site to see if they had been released yet and the live CNN news feed with Erin Burnett started playing. Then I couldn't click away. There were 4 video clips. 3 of them were body camera videos with sound and the other one is a silent video from a police camera on a street light pole. Initially this Memphis police group pulled Nichols over for supposed reckless driving--which the chief of police says that there is no evidence for. The initial group of officers didn't tell him what he supposedly did wrong after Nichols asked several times. For whatever reason the cops were all amped up and aggressive and they decided to pull him out of his car. 5 large men can't manage to hold him (a 150 pound man) down on the ground so they pepper spray both him and themselves. One cop tries to tase him and fails. Then Nichols gets up and takes off running to try to get home in fear for his life. . . with good reason. The tough-guy officers try to chase him but are winded after like a minute and have to stop for many minutes to catch their breath. So they can't handcuff him, they pepper spray themselves, they miss tasing him, and then they can't keep up with him. Seems like they were angry that they suck at their jobs. One of the officers is heard saying, when he hears that other officers have caught up with Nichols, that he hopes that they "stomp him". The other 2 body cam videos are from the second location where Nichols was caught and beaten. You can hear him screaming for his mother at least 3 times. You can hear the officers from the first incident who have caught up with this second site complaining about their injuries and pepper spray in their eyes. They also are trying to justify their actions to each other and work out their stories--"he touched my gun", "he is on something", etc. You also see Nichols fall over several times after being propped up sitting on the ground against a car. The fire department and paramedics are on site and don't do anything for like 20+ minutes to even assess his clearly serious condition. The 4th and most brutal video is the street cam. Tyre is on the ground, there are up to 8 police officers on site, and they supposedly can't manage to get him into handcuffs. In the body cam videos you can hear cops yelling "give me your hands!" like dozens of times over minutes. You see them kicking him full force in the head while he is down on the ground and not getting up. They punch him repeatedly. They use a metal baton to beat the hell out of him. The family's lawyer was not exaggerating when he said that Tyre was beaten like a "human pinata". There apparently was no reason to pull Tyre Nichols over according to the Memphis chief of police. The cops escalated the situation unnecessarily and totally sucked at their job so they were angry/embarrassed. They then caught up with Nichols again and beat him to a pulp for absolutely no good reason. He was absolutely no threat to the public or the officers. They could have let him run, let him go, and caught up with him at another time. I don't know what the potential prison sentences would be if the 5 officers charged (so far) are convicted of all 5 charges but it absolutely won't be enough. What monsters. I suspect that they will have to be kept in protective custody in prison for whatever time they serve.

I just read that the policemen were released on bail. hat´s enough reason not to want to visit the US. They have animals loose in the streets.

Last I saw 4 of the 5 posted the $250,000/$350,000 bail. One still remains in prison. They have been fired from the police force. I suspect they probably have had to surrender their weapons (personal) as well.

And some of the animals loose in the streets are the ones who are supposed to serve and protect.

I can't imagine why this keeps happening in a country such as ours. The police get pumped up full of adrenaline and can't control themselves. They know better from past cases that they can't beat on someone like that. And still it continues. What is it going to take to have our police act like human beings?

@LindaOHio Those former officers simply didn't care. They were savages who were angry that they suck at their job.

@NJChicaa This should not still be happening. Men have to learn to control themselves.

@NJChicaa I would have thought that past deaths would make the police more cautious when dealing with the public...but not so!

I got a note from a friend who has a club in Memphis. They canceled the concert that was supposed to happen tonight. This makes me think there’s something seriously wrong going on. All five cops are black, so this wasn’t “white cop/black suspect” like you see. Have you heard about/read about the Stanford Prison Experiment? Something like that going on.

Such a disappointment for a black suspect being beaten by a fellow black police officer. I couldn't believe a single traffic violation would end up beating the hell out of him.

I am broken from this, just broken. Over and over again, like Kelly Thomas the same RIP. Keeps happening.

The little bit of footage I saw on the evening news made me cry,
