The crooked Lombard Street. San Francisco

As tourists we were taken to this spot where one could see this street. Lombard Street has several quick curves where driving is a nightmare. In the photo you can see vehicles lined at different curves and it must be a nightmare getting out while in there.
Amusing that this is a sight seeing spot and gullible tourists like us are taken there. Our transport - a bus - did not use that road. Luckily there were other routes.
Have you visited this sight?

I have been there, years ago and could not resist driving down. My 66 VW bug did fine.

I have never been to San Francisco and had no idea there was a road like that but it makes sense to me, there is little chance any kids would be speeding up and down that street which looks to be in an area of many apartment buildings.

@allknowing they could make it a two way street I think. I think this is there way of getting people to drive slowly up and down it.

Good of the government they have not brought down buildings to make way for a straight road

@allknowing - Fisherman’s Wharf, is one of the city's tourist areas. There are stalls selling crab and clam chowder. There’s also a colony of sea lions to see and historic ships to tour. The Ferry to Alcatraz leaves on Pier 33 just south of Fisherman's Wharf.

We even visited where Gays stayed. So funny as these days no one talks about them as it is legalised every where. Watching men walking hand in hand was shocking in those days (lol) Year 2000

I've probably been down Lombard Street a handful of times in my lifetime. It's a novel street to drive through, but so tight . . . definitely too tight for a big bus. I remember the line on the hill to go there was pretty steep too.

@allknowing One must drive through it slowly . . . not a place for racing, that's for sure.
