The email said: Stop Washing Your Chicken!

I was quite surprised at that. I never wash my chicken; he hates getting his feathers wet! . Or, I could say, I never wash him in the sink, he likes the bathtub better. Lame joke, but I couldn't resist. I get email from Web MD and they always have helpful info about health. In this case they say that it is best to let cooking kill any bacteria on chicken. Washing it in your sink simply spreads any bacteria to the sink area and could get on your hands or any veggies you wash unless you stop and clean the sink immediately.

It's been so long since I cooked a chicken, but I'm pretty sure I washed them before cooking.

I would wash a whole chicken for sure, as @LadyDuck says, but we just buy pieces.

@RubyHawk Amazing! I never did kill any or cut them up, but saw my Aunt do that. How long have you been a vegetarian now?

@JamesHxstatic I've bought chickens both ways, and I've killed them and cut them up, but I'm vegetarian now.

Lots of people believe you should wash your meat before cooking. I never have nor will. Just cooking it will kill off most all bacteria as the rest your body tends to take care of on its one.

@JamesHxstatic now it’s a different when you live out in the actual wild then you might have to wash your meat before hand incase you didn’t drain the blood out enough.

I have read this, I wash the inside and then I sanitize my sink. No way that I do not wash inside.

I heard about this on the news a while back. The splashing while washing chicken (even if we don't see it) gets everywhere in and around the sink . . . better to cook out the bacteria. Fine with me, one less step .

I have never washed my chicken. Just put in the oven bake. That would kill all bacteria.

I tend to disagree. I have been eating chickens all my life and I will tell you some have been bloody to begin with. I always wash them off, pat them dry and then season and cook or bake, I have not had problems,

This is news you can use! That bacteria can spread every where the chicken touches. For the record my chicken likes the sink best!

That will do it. I just let the heat clean the chicken. I always buy boneless, skinless anyway.

I do not wash my chicken in the sink I soak it in a bowl and I then I use the water for Flushing and then I scrub the bow really well with Clorox and pine soul and dish washing liquid and hot water and rinsed down well I doubt that water into the bucket for flushing and rinse the container out well so that there is no cross-contamination from my chicken at all thanks for the reminder and info though hope to read more from you soon

That's interesting. I've always rinsed off my chicken before cooking and then scrub scrub scrub the sink to get rid of any bacteria the chicken might have left.
