So I gather we shot down the Chinese weather and spy balloon today.
I am glad that they waited until it was over the Atlantic Ocean.
Will we learn anything new from the balloon? I have no clue.
Would the US admit it is it actually WAS a weather balloon? I have no clue.
The whole thing makes me want to re-watch Dr. Strangelove, one of my top five movies ever. Have you seen that Kubrick classic?
What are your thoughts on the balloon? Is it too big to give to your sweetheart on Valentines day, along with a very large bunny and a lifetime supply of chocolates?

A note that says “We’ve been trying to contact you about your car’s extended warranty.”

Should be interesting what they find. It'd be funny if they shot down a cell tower or something to that affect. The world may never know.

@TheHorse Yep. They at least waited for it to get over a large body of water. The balloon itself was likely harmless, too.

@kaylachan I'm sure we'll hear more "news" about it.

I think it's interesting that the Chinese government "lost" two of these balloons about the same time. The one that flew over the US and the one that is currently flying over Latin America.

@jstory07 That's why I think it's interesting... Governments don't "lose" multiples of something without a good reason.

I am also very curious what will be found in the balloon. But I think both sides may have a deal what to say and what will be hiden. This is the tricks from the politicians.
I had seen news before how Israel intercepted missile attack. It is no doubt that USA is much more advanced and can do the same even better. So it is strange such kind of balloon still flew for a long time. There should be some actions before in my opinion.
So the purpose may want to make a tense relationship between USA and China. I can't think out why this balloon will show up in USA because it can't be a threaten, weapon or something like that. Is it be a plan to affect both sides' leaders? Or change the investment field and some people make profits from it?

@TheHorse Last night I learned that the Chinese chief of Weather Bureau was fired in January. This is an interesting thing
It makes this case much more dramatical
But if I have to pick from weather balloon or spy balloon, I still have to pick the latter one, but I just doubt how much spy work such a balloon can do anyway.

I wonder what they will find. And why did they feel after several days they needed to shoot it down? Is that what they were waiting for?

Dr. Stranglove is one of my favorites, too. Did you ever notice that it was released in 1964, the best year ever?

@TheHorse I think I've seen it about that many times. I need to watch it again.

Just to satisfy my curiosity I wish they have found a way to shoot it down and be able to examine it and get some answers.

Not only has the whole situation made me think of Dr. Strangelove and Wag the Dog, I've also been reminded of the Rovers from the TV series The Prisoner.

Yes, I've seen Dr. Strangelove. I have no thoughts on the balloon. At least people can stop shooting at it.
