Week One at Goodwill

This week has been a long week for my first week at Goodwill, outside my first day for Onboarding on Monday afternoon. I've completed my first 20-hour work week. On Tuesday, it was my first day of training, when I met the other processors and learned how to sort donated clothing from the blue bin (dirty, stained, torn hems, pet hair, torn and ripped, etc.) and keep the good ones in the presorted clothing cart. The male processors work the wares, the managers work the shoes and bags and sometimes the wares, and the three other females work the textiles and clothing with one other guy. Since Danielle couldn't be there on Tuesday when she was busy with other clients, one of her colleagues Angela stepped in for most of the shift. Other than going through the Blue Training Manual, the employee handbook, and some videos for training, that was my first day. Angela told Danielle I did a good job, and when she visited me on Wednesday and yesterday for paperwork, she also said the same thing too. And there's a daily quota I have to obtain during training. This was what I learned via Indeed last month, and what Danielle told me on Wednesday: clear four blue bins a day. My manager knows it's going to take me some time to get to that point, hopefully within a month or so. This week, I've managed to almost clear one bin (1/3rd left) on Tuesday, both Wednesday and today, I cleared a little over one bin (1.15), and yesterday, I cleared one bin. Next week, starting tomorrow after church, my goal is to clear 1.5 to 2 bins. If I manage to clear 4 bins a day, I'll learn how to be a processor to tag and hang clothes on the rack to the sales floor. And that's when I'll be calling Danielle again for help. Right now, I'm going to do my best and take my time to clear two bins if possible in a 5-hour shift with a ten minute break. As for Bridge Support, I haven't heard much from Danielle about it, other than she's working on contacting my local DD board for intake. Maybe I'll hear something soon next week. So this is my report on week one. Since I'll be home late tomorrow around supper time and exhausted after a long day, I'll check in with notifications and posts on Monday (my day off) to post my January recipe report card and my recipe list for February. Stay safe and warm this weekend and see you on Monday.

How long is your shift and how big is a bin? Back in my GAP days when I worked stock I could do 70 boxes per hour.

Five hours with one ten-minute break. It's big and can store a lot of clothes and other stuff. Here's a photo of one I've found online. 70 boxes? That's a lot.
