Ready for Meat Grown in a Lab?

Eugene, Oregon
February 6, 2023 4:01pm CST
The US Food and Drug Administration says that meat grown in a laboratory is safe to eat. It may even be on the menus of some upscale restaurants in the not-too-distant future, but it will be quite expensive compared to the real thing for a long time. This particular meat is grown from cultured chicken cells, but the same thing can be done with beef, pork & seafood. One advantage would be much less land and water would be used, it would be more humane for animals for sure and the article I read on CNN Health says that the "food system is responsible for about a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions, mostly from animal agriculture. " It'll be a while yet, but the future is coming for those of us who will still be around.

I'm vegetarian so it wouldn't matter to me, but I'm sure people will eat it. Mayve that will help clean up the atmosphere. That would be a blessing.

@JamesHxstatic If they get it off the ground it might be the solution to pollution, now if we could do away with car exhausts and with electric cars I suppose we will.

I hope I will never have to eat that. It sounds nasty, imo.

@JamesHxstatic It is a matter of necessity to get used to things if we don't have a choice. But, yuck!!

All that you said is true. But no thanks. I'd rather become a vegetarian.

I think I would prefer the plant based meats like soy meat and veggies burgers. This sounds a little far fetched.

I think it is great. People would probably feel better about eating meat, if animals weren't slaughtered to get it. Plus, as you said the environmental impacts of animal farming are astronomical.

An article I read last week, in a local magazine minimized the impact of global greenhouse gas emissions from animals. It seems it has been widely exaggerated... May be someone has big interested in the new lab meat business. I would stick of eggs, cheese and vegetables, but I would not eat meat grown in labs.

Nope, I will never eat anything like that especially if it comes from a laboratory.

I think that I would at least try it. We must make some accommodations to get global warming under control. It may be years away yet though.

Well they are composting humans now, so it would not surprise me if we will be the next meat.
