A Good Sunny Day in Oregon with Chili in the Pot.

Eugene, Oregon
February 12, 2023 6:09pm CST
I just heard that there is a winter weather advisory for Monday night and Tuesday, 20 F on Tuesday morning, maybe snow. Ick! Well, it figures, since the Camellias have lots of red blooms. If it snows more than a little, the branches will be weighted down and, bye, bye blooms. Today it is a sunny 48 F in western Oregon, quite nice. I guess there's a football game, but I haven't watched one in 30 years, so not for me. Instead, I am trying to write some and hoping that our big crockpot of chili is not too spicy hot when we are ready to eat. I tasted it and the heat is increasing. I read that adding potatoes helps cool it a bit, so I put two small ones in to try that, also acidic stuff like lime juice or wine is supposed to help. So, I added a teaspoon of lime juice and a dollop of red wine. We can always add sour cream to out bowls too. I know that helps. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the chili with a good bottle of Zinfandel wine for dinner.

It was nice and quiet, talked on the phone to my daughter, helped cook the chili and got some writing done too.

Oh yes, @Tampa_girl, I have some good cheddar too. The stuff I added helped cool it down just enough I think.

I'm sure I would need sour cream with that Chile. Actually, I use yogurt

It is a favorite in the US, @Kandae11, with or without beans in it. Purists say no beans, just beef.

That is why I have quit making home made chili (I say that, not sure it is true). It gets too hot, I add stuff to cool it. Sour cream is my favorite, but I know of people who will stir in ranch dressing. Enjoy your feast.

James I think you are among the very few Americans who did not watch Super Bowl. The site has been very quiet during the evening and night. I hope you are not going to get snow, it is a shame when it snows and the Camelias have red blooms. Was your chili too hot, or just right?

@JamesHxstatic - Potatoes are the best also to remove excess of salt.

One of my co-workers was eating some chili in the break room last night, and it smelled so good. Now I am craving chili even more than I was last night. I hope yours turned out well.

No football? Even I am into it I hope your chili wasn't too hot for you. What did you use to make it so hot to begin with?

We have some chili powder that did it I think. Anne did the original seasoning, then I looked up how to cool it down.

That sounds an excellent dinner. I've read that adding whole potatoes to a pot will reduce the heat. I'm not sure if it works.

Enjoy the chili. It’s above normal for temps here, in fact we might break a record high this week. Then have snow by the weekend. Ah, life in the Ohio Valley.

We had and inch of snow yesterday morning, then close to 50 F later, so it went fast. It was 20 here this morning, but dry.
