Hello everyone! Hope everyone is doing fine. it's a sunny day here . We all take medicines when we are sick . I used to read the side effects before I start any new medication. I feel it's not a good thing,it makes us anxious and keep us in negative thoughts about the medication. Some doctors give us precautions how tablets effects us after consuming but still he feels it is an effective one. i had tried one tablet that made me feel sick then i asked him to change the tablet. I think it is just fine to check the side effects after we notice any changes in us and consult a doctor. I have few friends who check side effects before starting medication. What's your opinion on this?.Do you check the side effects?.

Yes, I read the side effects - at times, the side effects may be the only reason I take something. *may cause hallucinations* Heck yes, give me some!

I take the medication the doctor prescribed and if something I don't like happens, then Pretty starts checking the medication side effects and may ask the doctor to switch the medication. She's done that before and the doctor changes the medication.

@Icydoll That's the reason I let Pretty check side effects. I don't want to know in case I am only imagining symptoms that aren't really there.

Most of the time I won't read it. As if the doctor presicribed the medicine for me, then the doctor must know the medicine suits me.

@Icydoll Yes, this annoys me immensely. Like they know the water is not safe and still, they encourage us to go for a dip. How to trust such doctors then?

Doctors write it even if they know it has effects when they few options or when they feel the tablet is effective than the side effects

@coolimrose Now the doctors are like that they don't even spend time listening our exact problem and suggest right medicines .

Whenever my doctor prescribes me some medicines I always go ahead and check what are they prescribed me for and how that particular medicine is going to help me. What is that used for and what are the side effects. It has really helped me when I started following this practice I kind of realised which medicines are causing me allergies or side effects etc

I read them before I fill them, and then when I get to the pharmacy to make sure I am getting one of the ones that doesn't have corn starch in them... because so many do.

That's good to do search sometimes to get information about the tablet . But doesn't it make us worried besides getting information about it before starting medication like i might get this effect if start taking tablet. i think after noticing the effect it is fine to consult doctor for change.

I would go for medication only if it's my last resort. I know that there is no medicine that is totally safe to be used. Some have immediate side effects while others might show up in long run. But then we have to take medicine when we have to. I don't read the side effects before using it as it would play with my psychology. If I would feel anything going wrong, I will consult the doctor and get it changed.

I am allergic to a lot of things, and a few medications. When a new one is prescribed to me, I do check the side effects, I look it up online before I even fill the prescription. It's not worth it if it makes me sick, or get hives, or restricts my breathing, which has happened in the past.

I do that too, but the only medication I am allergic to is codine, well, and some Novocaine sort of things you can't get over the counter. I do have reactions to lots of foods, and the worst is corn, and many medications have the "inert" product "corn starch" that isn't inert to me.

Sorry to read about the side effects you had faced. It's always good to check the side effects. But don't you feel anxious reading the effects before using ahead . It worries me a lot .It's better doctor to say the minimum effects of the tablet before we use it . For me he said to take the tablet with coffee or soda where as it gives vomit feeling and gastric problem. The side effects part is worst that I have faced

I was taking a medication for my ulcer. Because I read about the side affects and medication interactions before I started taking the stuff, when I got bronchitis I stopped taking it. The reason was the interactions said it could reduce or prevent other medications from working. So, because I had to take my antibiotics 3 times a day, I didn't take the other stuff. I also have since stopped taking it if the stuff causes a response I find unpleasant. Not full time, but gone from 4 times a day to once, twice or not at all, depending on what it is doing to my body.

@Icydoll in this case, the medicine the doctor wanted me to take, I could not because they had corn starch in them. Everything else was not really even second best. This was a powder normally prescribed for cholesterol. Because of the corn starch, the antibiotic had to be liquid because ALL antibiotics that aren't IV antibiotics have corn starch except the liquid ones. This means I take the same liquids that my vet prescribes for my cats, just more of them.

Yes, I always read the whole literature or all about the meds before I take them because I'm taking several now, and they might interact with each other. The best is I consult my doctor when I have doubts. They say that anything taken by the body could serve as a poison.

I question my doctor about the medication before he prescribes it. The one I have for my UC has a long list of side-effects, but it's the only one that works and I haven't experienced any of the side effects. For my blood thinner, I asked not to go back to the one I had a couple of years ago because that one gave me daily bloody noses, and that is one of the side effects. The other one has that as a side effect, but it's also one that has the least amount of trouble with nose bleeds. So far, I haven't had any trouble with it. Those are the only two prescibed medications I take.

@Icydoll I take a blood thinner because of a history of blood clots, so I'm on that one for life. I'm also on the one for my UC for the rest of my life. I wish it weren't so, but it's what it is. I hate them too.

I'm glad to know that the two medications that you taking doesn't give any side effects and working well for you. Some might give side effects in long term usage. I hope it will fine for you and you recover soon. I hate that when we have only tablets to chose I get scared by bloody noses

If I buy it off the pharmacy shelf, I read the side effects but if it's a doctor's prescription I don't. If I have a problem with the medication I message my doctor.

Sometimes, when you research side-effects, it seems they list every possible thing that might occur. So I can see how you would think it's not a good idea.

Yes judy it has many side effects listed for every tablet . Tablet has the side effects that's the fact. Moreover they benefit us less, giving side effects more.

If the medicine is from a doctor, I have never done it, because it is not listed there. If I buy medicine from a pharmacy, I always read it before buying it.
