Murder Cat

So on Monday Animal Outreach calls, "can you foster"? Well, I know that Naomi told them no last summer, but I figured I'd do most of the work, so I said yes. It was a mama and kittens, but I couldn't pick them up for a coupe of days, because the kids have been monopolizing all the cars since I work from home. So I arranged to pick them up after my lunch date Wednesday which was nearer to them and when I had a vehicle. Get there, and no cats. The mama cat got disturbed and they had a little trouble getting her into the carrier. No worries, they're on their way. So mama was still unhappy when they got there, so they didn't do intake. Usually they would vaccinate mama and weigh her and the kittens So I took them home, and I put the carrier in the bathroom with their stuff, and I went to open the carrier so they could walk around the bathroom. Mama cat was not happy and tried to scratch me, so I went and got silicon gloves and opened the carrier and got out. I told the kids to be very careful about going in there. Dearra took some canned food in, and the mama cat rushed her, so she put it down and got out. We couldn't find our spray can of Feliway, so I went to PetCo to get one. I sprayed it in there and left her to calm down. This morning I asked Naomi to take her some food. Naomi is great with animals, and I figured she'd be very careful. She went in and put the food down and stood there, and the cat attacked her. Both lets and feet got scratched and bitten, and when she pulled the cat off her leg, her arm got scratched and bitten. I was dealing with vertigo this morning and Dearra had literally left for the ER because of how she was feeling, so it already wasn't a great morning. So I went and got the rubbing alcohol and cleaned her up. Her dad was in town so he took her to urgent care where she got a tetanus shot, antibiotics and cleaned up better. Called Animal Outreach about the cat, and got some advice. Hope the cat simmers down. Apparently she was really sweet before this, but she had been with this couple all her life, no other cats, and suddenly she gets transplanted with kittens, and a dog barking got her hormones raging. Meanwhile, we're trying to find out if she ever had a rabies shot. Yikes.

If a cat is feeling a threat, it used to scratch and attack aggresively a person. Especially if the cat is not a pet ( used to be in the road or other place). I hope Dearra will be okay

@ifa225 She doesn't know me and she thinks she's protecting her babies. I hope she calms down.

Oh, wow! That's not good! I hope she calms down soon... I'd be tempted to tell Outreach to come get her. (But I wouldn't have told them I'd take her, either.)

They took on two litters of kittens and mamas for me, so it's only fair that I help. But I don't think I'll take on a mama and babies again. If she doesn't simmer down by Monday, I'm going to see if they can have somebody come and get her.

@dawnald Were the cat and kittens they accepted from you trying to kill anyone who goes close to them? I think they lied about her being "sweet tempered".

@DaddyEvil The lady who brought her, got her and the kittens from the original owner, and she says mama cat was sweet as can be until she heard a dog bark, and she's been stressed ever since then.

I don't think I'd have the cat in the house with the children.
