I Have a Funny Memory to Share

Back in the late 70s to early 80's I was working at AT&T as a long-distance telephone operator and raising a young daughter. She was about 8 or 9 at the time. She had a Maine Coon cat that was the love of her life. This particular day the cat had gone missing. We searched the area, checked with neighbors, etc. but, no cat. I had a party I was going to. Tupperware or Home Decor, I don't remember which. My good fellow telephone company friend, Vicki, had invited me and I was bringing my daughter. It came time to leave and no cat yet. So my daughter was concerned but excited to see Vicki. We drove up Harrison Boulevard to Hill road and up into the foothills to Vick's apartment. She greeted us and soon the party got underway. Several other friends from work were there. Probably about ten of us. Vicki had made some lime sherbert punch with a bit of vodka in it. My daughter was given a virgin one but was curious about ours. So, unbeknownst to us she had gone around to test several of our drinks. My daughter had had about half a dozen sips of our punch and, yes, was a bit tipsy. As we were leaving she was whaling softly, "Oh, my kitty is lost. I want my kitty." Over and over again. I get her in the car and have her window open on the way down Harrison Boulevard with her whaling her kitty lament. It was probably near midnight by that time and the roads were pretty bare thank goodness. I happened to look up at the sky and noticed this beautiful whirling colorful ribbon of green and white in the sky. The Aurora Borealis had made it from Alaska down to Idaho that night. It was a beautiful sight and actually got my daughter's attention for the rest of the ride home. Whatever reminds us of such things from our pasts anyway? Image is from Google.

@celticeagle oh my gosh poor kitty and your poor daughter had to be heartbroken. Our minds really are amazing. Mine will make little connections with this and that and do I can start with one topic and a minute later be on to something else and my husband gets baffled. He always says how did you go from this to this and I explain. Seems normal to me

It was fantastic! I think I was one of very few who experienced it. No, it is rare to see it down here. It's a normal occurrence in Alaska but, not this low.

I don’t know why, but some memories pop up when least expected. I remember those Tupperware parties.

That's great it came down your way. I remember the one and only time I saw it here. I was a kid and staying overnight at Grandma's. Suddenly the walls in the bedroom were painted several different colors. My sister and I went outside to see the Aurora Borealis. It was amazing! Did you ever find the cat?

@celticeagle It was. Now the weathermen tell you if we're going to have a northern lights display. It happens more than I expected, but conditions need to be just right. But with how early I go to bed, I haven't seen the display.

So sorry to hear about the kitty. Sad. I remember seeing the Aurora Borealis from our home on Lake Erie back in the 70s. That was so cool. Have a good weekend.
