A person who checked out a children's book out of the Deschutes Public Library in Oregon called "The Hockey Trick" written by Scott Corbett in 1979 was returned via the mail to the library five days ago.
The name of the man or woman who returned the book back to the library sent a letter with a check for $20 dollars and an apology for the trouble that they caused.
The good part of this story is that the library is that even though the library which is located in Bend Oregon no longer fines anyone who does not return a book back to the library in time does not fined anymore. The policy took effect a few years ago.

@Adie04 That is true. I guess thanks to social media, it gets more coverage now than in the past.

@Deepizzaguy Wow. There's many people who don't return their books on time.

@Deepizzaguy It happens when you have a big house. When you have a small house everything is approachable.

@sjvg1976 That does happen to my relatives when we have to do some housecleaning and books that are missing are usually found in the mess inside.

The person who checked out the book from the library probably lost the book inside of his home and most likely saw the book inside of a room and realized that it did belong inside of the home.

I did write a discussion of a book that was returned to a library a long time ago related to the stories of the late Sir Alfred Hitchcock in Massachusetts as well as other states.

That is likely what happened that the libraries that have books that have been checked out and not returned for many years do go missing inside and the library has to get replacement books.

@Deepizzaguy They would need to replay lost books or we wouldn’t have books to read.

That's a big overdue fee if the library should decide to collect.

If the library did decide to fine the person who checked out the book, the fine would in the five figure range.

I can´t imagine how much the fine would be they still fined.
Nice that the person sent money though. Libraries always need money to buy books.

I am also amazed that books that were checked out of public libraries over 30 years ago are not being returned to the libaray.

I am in agreement with you that the person who returned the book that was checked out did the book did say that the person who checked out by the book did send a check for $20 and an apology did the right thing.

You are tight since the person who mailed the book did apologize for returning the book which is nice of him or her to admit they made an error.
