Those that have furry ones at home do they smile?

If your pet smiles how did you get them to do it? I have been asking my cat to smile for quite some time now and she still does not. How does one get their pet to smile? I know there are other ways that we know they are happy but I would give anything to see my cat smile and when I ask her to she does not. Do any of your pets smile on their own or do you ask them to?

@Hannihar My Leilah doesn't smile. But you can tell with her eyes and her body language when she's happy. Sophie is probably telling you in other ways that she's happy. Maybe she's not the smiley type.

@Hannihar That's right. I'm sure she is doing it another way. That's cute she purrs.

@VivaLaDani13 Thank you Dani and she probably is not the smiling type and lets me know when I pet her with her purring that she is happy.

@Shivram59 I guess the stray cats in your house show their affection in running and playing. Did you adopt them or just feed and give them water?

@Shivram59 ok and that is so nice that you love them. How many strays do you have in your house and do they live with you all the time?

I don’t have pets now but I have. I don’t believe animals smile but they do get a happy look on their face.

@Hannihar I can see it by the way they look at you. Just a brightening of the eyes and a certain look.

I can't get pets to smile. I am not even sure if they can. But of course they have other ways to express themselves. For example, when the cats are happy around me they tighten their tails into a tight question mark.

@porwest I have seen videos and saw them smiling and someone showed their pet with a smile on him or her. Do you have a picture of their tighened tails into a question mark?

I don't have any furry animals now but have had lots in the past. My deceased Pitbull usually had the grumpiest look on her face and then out of nowhere I would see a smile. I didn;t do anything special to get those smiles. They just appeared.

@cttolledo Do they show you the same face all the time? I see the face of the dog in the picture and thank you for sharing that.

Half shut eyes in a cat is generally a sign of contenment. I find that to be a smile.

@sallypup I would just once like to see a smile on her face and yes the closing and opening eyes is a good sign too.

@sol_cee I have also seen videos where animals smile and wondered if they train them or if the animal just smiles at times and if there is something someone says or they just do it.

My daughters' cats tend to ignore me whenever they saw me. Whenever they try to get some extra yummy food from me, they always rub and rub against my legs (to the extent that I often worried that they would lose all their fur if they kept doing that just for a piece of chicken or beef!). I guess that is how they show their affection, the rubbing part to mess up my pants!

@YrNemo They will not lose their fur rubbing up against you. You are right, they are showing their affection. My cat sheds in the winter.

From my point of view is to just do something that your pet enjoys. How often do you play with your pet?
