Gruelling Migraine at Work

Today I survived a 12 hour shift with a migraine. I really felt like I was going to faint. Initially I thought it was my blood pressure but it was 131/74 mmhg which is a bit high but not too bad. I also had my blood sugar checked as my hands were very clammy but it was also normal at 4.4mmol/L. I ate, I drank, I took pain medication to no avail. My manager did not send me home so I really forced myself not to pass out. I will be booking a doctor's appointment this Monday as it is scaring me now. My neck is very stiff as well so I am wondering if it is the root of it all. Also wondering if it could be my eyes as the pain does make me a bit photosensitive. I tried asking google and got scary answers so I have stopped.

Could it be stress related?

I was going to respond as @DaddyEvil did, telling you that the stiff neck might be causing it. One natural thing I did, when I used to have these a lot, was to increase the foods rich in magnesium in my diet. Magnesium among other things is a smooth muscle relaxant. I used to get headaches like this a half dozen times a year. I hope you did finally get relief and I hope you figure it out.

It is quite likely that the stiff neck is the cause. But I am not ruling out the eyes. I will try to eat more magnesium rich food. Anything natural is good.

Photosensitivity is one of the give away symptoms of migraine for me even before the headache strikes. Hope you feel better soon

Are you diabetic? You should have gone home. Are you a bit of a hypochondriac

I am not diabetic yet. I have checked my sugar twice just to confirm. I do not think I am a hypochondriac I usually do not come for doctors and avoid them if I can. But this year I feel like old age is creeping up on me.

Your eyes were photosensitive because of the migraine and not vice versa. Your neck could be the cause of your migraine.

Yeah it might be true. I still have it today but it looks like my eyes are maybe causing it. I will see the doctor and I really hope they can shed light about my migraine. It could just be the period coming too. I am at the point in my life where my health really bothers me.

@LadyDuck I do get them sometimes before my period along with tummy cramps too. I should have it next week. Hopefully that's the only thing causing it. I am a bit worried it could be my eyes.

@flapiz I had migraines when I was young and those horrible migraines were always caused by my period. When I entered the menopause the migraines stopped.

It can be just a migraine, photosensitive is common when you have it and usually regular pain killers doesn't work.

I have actually some gabapentin but I don't want to take them as they make me feel depressed. Today it has stopped after 2 days of gruelling pain. Hopefully it stays like this throughout the week.

I took ibuprofen yesterday evening and it did wonders. I am having a read at the list of information so I can avoid more episodes of these in the future.

Are you done with your period? Sometimes it can be caused by menstrual cycle.
