An empty fridge

Our fridge is pretty much empty. Have no idea what to get. Since Passover is coming up don’t really want to get much that can’t be eaten during Passover. I don’t want hubby to end up throwing it out. I hope he won’t get rid of what we already have that can’t be eaten during this holiday. I hate when food is being thrown away. I think we should definitely buy hand matzah and some other things for Passover as waiting till right before the holiday can mean those things won’t be in stock anymore; especially the hand matzah. What else to get I have no idea. I hope it will come to me once we are in the store. I put frozen Cornish hen and frozen wild mushrooms in the fridge to defrost but I doubt they will completely thaw by tonight. Most likely will end up making that tomorrow. That means I have to figure out tonight’s dinner... As of now I don’t know what I want to eat.

I have the opposite problem: too much stuff in my fridge. I can't decide what to eat. But I am cooking up a stir fry for lunch right now. I am already on my second box of matzos. I love that stuff, whether it's under Brie or just butter. I even put lox and cream cheese on it sometimes. I hope you have a wonderful Pesach. I'm not even sure when it starts!

It starts eve of April 5th. I’d like to think that a fairly empty fridge means no food is wasted. That’s not always true though. I like matzah but only eat it during Passover. It’s weird but sometimes our neighbors throw matzah onto the street for the birds. I guess birds like to eat it.

Have you ever made matzah pizza? I really like it. Just put ketchup, cheese, maybe veggies and put it in a toaster oven to let the cheese melt.

I am emptying our fridge ready for our house-swap people. Some things can stay but we've cleaned up most of the foodstuffs.

@lovebuglena A couple from Ireland are coming to stay in our house and we'll be staying in Ireland in theirs. It will save us a small fortune.

I will take out the Cornish hen from the fridge, put it in water, and let it sit on the counter for a little bit. The mushrooms, I removed the ice from it and rinsed them in water. They should be fine by the time I’m ready to make them.

I'm curious and ignorant. Is this similar to the Muslims' Ramadan? or Holy Week in the Christian world? I guess, they all refer to a holy celebration or event.

I hope you are able to come up with something good to eat if the Cornish hens are not thawed out.

We bought steak and two corn on the cob. Fried up the steaks. Boiled corn, removed from cob, and sautéed in the skillet with butter and spices. Really good dinner. I will be doing the Cornish hen tonight. Just gotta let it soak in water as it’s not fully defrosted yet.

What things are taboo during Passover?

Not sure what you mean by taboo? If it’s things you can’t eat it’s bread, grains, and legumes, or anything made from grains and legumes. And you don’t use flour when baking.

@LindaOHio you can’t have anything where the dough rises for more than 18 minutes or something like that. Don’t remember why.

@lovebuglena Yes, taboo is something you can't do. Interesting that it's bread, grains and legumes. What is the religious reasoning for that?

I don't buy frozen vegetables or other non-veg items. I buy them from the local market-clean and fresh.

I usually don’t buy frozen veggies, except if I wanna make Chinese. I buy frozen mixed veggies for that. The mushroom are wild mushrooms my dad foraged for. They were boiled and then frozen.
