Not exactly deep throated roaring motorbikes, so I think these are mopeds. Very likely stolen and then dumped. The first one looks like it was stripped of parts and set on fire, while the second was rolled into the canal after whoever stole it had their fun. A while back there was a bit of an epidemic of bikes being stolen, even delivery riders being knocked off of their rides. and more than a few were being used for other crimes, such as grabbing cellphones from people in the street or delivering drugs. You don’t hear so much about it now. Not sure if that is because we have gotten used to it or it doesn’t happen as much.

Unfortunately the people at the top seem to be a bunch of crooks, so it trickles its way down

@CarolDM I am sure there is an honest politico, but I've yet to see him/her!

I think the reason the stolen mopeds stories do not get much attention is because it does not happen often.

It used to happen quite regularly, but seems to be all quiet now

@Ronrybs Thank you for telling me since according to a news article I read a while back, the more injuries or deaths involved, the interest in reporting the news gets.

I saw a YT video of two young men on a moped stealing a phone from a woman's hands as they rode past. The thieves were never caught. I'm glad that type of crime doesn't happen where I live.

@Ronrybs Yes, I can see the sense in that. I'm glad I don't have to be careful when and where I use my phone.

Sadly, I fear as they get older they move on to bigger things... well, not always

There was some really clear footage the other day of someone with a battery-operated bolt-cutters, stealing a pushbike. He is bound to get caught.

@Ronrybs If they get away with something, it's pretty logical that they'll try it again and/or get bolder.

There some video of a similar incident in Leeds using grinder to steal two bikes. At the first the police said there was little they could do, but after a public outcry the Chief Constable said this was the wrong response. You often see stories of this type of crime being a gateway to bigger illegalities

Indeed they do and I have adverts for equipment to help them continue to do so. The law just can't keep up in this age

This is the first time I've heard of it. Whatever the reason, glad to know it has slowed down.

Yes, bad enough stealing it, but to wreck it is pure vindictiveness

Oh dear Ron, going on there too is it? Nasty business. Same here with the cars, bikes, trucks you name it. Feel bad for whoever's vehicles they are.

We are starting to have some problems with electric bicycles here. Those are expensive and more and more are stolen from the properties. I think that local people must learn to put those things in the garage during the night.

@Ronrybs - You are right thieves are a lot more sophisticated than in the past. We live in a small communities and we hear the noises during the night. I am sure I would hear the door of our garage pushed to open it, but if the bicycle is outside it's too easy to grab and go.

Thieves are getting very sophisticated and even garages and well bolted doors seem to deter them. I read of one fellow whose bike was stolen from his garden by lifting over a couple of fences
