As of January 31, 2023, there are 4,7171 Walmart stores across the United States. It is one of the most well-known stores in the world. It employs more than 1.6 million people. Due to low sales at some of these stores, the company will close 15 locations. The closures will be in Arkansas, Washington D.C., Georgia (2), Florida, Hawaii, Illinois (3), Indiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon (2), Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. It will also lay off hundreds of workers at five 'e-commerce' fulfillment centers. There is no definite date but, it is happening this year. My state isn't having any closures. How about in your neck of the woods?

@Deepizzaguy .........What would high crime have to do with their closures?

@celticeagle Thank goodness since in the case of the Wal Mart stores closing in Portland Oregon and other cities was due to high crime rates.

Not sure if our state is cutting employees/stores or not yet, although other stores like Bed Bath & Beyond are in trouble. But the country continues to suffer from an economic decline and eventually businesses will have to lay off employees or continue to raise prices in order to stay profitable. I believe the blame lies with the many poor economic decisions being made currently. 1. Overspending by the government (for example: giving Ukraine billions of dollars for their defense, and green energy spending) 2. The focus and overreaction to climate change by attacking the oil industry which increases the cost of diesel fuel for trucks who transport goods to stores, 3. Over regulation and increasing taxes on corporations, 4. The overreaction by the current administration shutting down businesses and stalling economic growth. All of these decisions have led to the inevitable, store closures and layoffs in my view. "We reap what we sow."

Helping Ukraine is gouging us big time. The other reasons you gave seem right too. I think we need to tax the big corporations. The rest I don't understand fully.

I've heard of so many companies downsizing in recent years. Ohhh, and now it's happening to a biggie like Walmart. CA is not on the list, but I know in the next county over there used to be 2 Walmarts, and they had to close one about 5 years ago.

@celticeagle True, if the numbers aren't working out for them, then bye bye. But I'm sure the people who frequented there aren't too happy.

I read an article yesterday that some of the ones that are closing are in high crime areas and they feel it's best to just shut them down. I do not go to Walmart at all, so it won't be a hardship for me if we don't have a Walmart. But there are 4 of them in fairly close proximity, so they won't go anywhere.

@celticeagle We have many places to shop that are prices comparable to Walmart or less, so I am good.

I haven't heard of any but I don't shop there anyway. I'm happy to report, though, that Zellers has come back. I still have to check it out, and if it's as good as it was before Wally killed it, I'll be shopping there a lot.

I don't think the Walmart here in town is going to close. I do wonder where exactly those 2 in Georgia will close?

That is so sad for those who will be retrenched and it so happened that prices are so high. They will find it hard to adjust. They may opt to find jobs online while searching for a new job offline.

It’s hard to believe Walmart stores are closing down. We have four Walmart’s near us and two Walmart grocery stores. They're always full of customers.

They just meet the goals set for them I guess. Hopefully these closures won't cause too many problems for people.
