Are you bothered when people forget your name?

Despite knowing someone, I won't take offense if they don't remember my name. If one of the people close to me did this, it would be disastrous. I won't become irritated. Feelings of disappointment or irritability would result. If my 104-year-old grandmother were in that circumstance, it wouldn't be a big concern. She remembered me and the rest of my family before she passed away, despite her old age. Image Credit: cliseetiquette.com

If I have not seen someone for a long time, I sometimes have this episode. Although I will pretend that I know them until remembering his or her name.

No, it wouldn't bother me. I often forget names of people I know. At jobs where I've worked with the same people for years, I forget their names... I called everyone ma'am or sir...

That's the safe thing to say. At some point, I sometimes cannot remember my co-workers when I came across them on the street.

@Shavkat Out of the familiar environment of work, we don't think about people we work with.

It's the same with me. I am also forgetful, I often call my grandkids different names, so I won't mind when people forget my name as well. It's remarkable that your grandma could still remember your names.

I don't get upset if people forget my name. I have the same issue when it comes to forgetting some peoples names. I have a had a close friend call me a different name I would think that that person was on their mind at the time.

You have a point. I sometimes do the same thing. It is not a good thing that I need to be dwelling with such a situation.

If a close friend forgot my name I would worry that they had dementia but when an acquaintance I do not know very well forgets it does not bother me .... I tend to forget names too.

I would think the same thing if it is unusual for a close friend to forget my name. I hope it is not like having Alzheimer's. If I am so pre-occupied, I sometimes forget names.

I would think a friend that didn’t know my name had lost their mind.

I would think the same way. I do hope that they will not fall to having an Alzheimer's. It is not a cool thing to have.

I am feeling the same way at random. Sometimes it will take time before I will remember their names. But I am good at remembering their faces.

@Shavkat - Not always I can remember names, we know so many people during a whole life.

If an old person forgets my name it is no botheration. But when I was a student whenever my teacher used to forget my name i used to immediately remind her or him about it. The reason was that I participated in curricular and extra curricular activities and right name matters a lot there.

It happens that we cannot remember people's names. I sometimes hear from students online that he or she was student in the past. I would just say yes. However, I cannot remember their names.

Sometimes names just get lost in your brain and it takes some time to remember, so I wouldn't take offence if they forget.

I remember the names of close friends and relatives. But when distance comes between people there is a tendency to forget their name. I've tried all the tricks too without success. When I worked at our local high school I remembered every students, teacher, staff, and parents names. Now I recall their faces and a few of their names.

104 years was a good age for your grandmother. If someone does not remember my name I will just tell it to them again.

Yes, she did live to the fullest. I felt bad that I was not able to talk with her for the last time. I might also do the same thing. I will introduce myself again with these people.

I tend to forget the names of a few who I am not regularly in touch with nowadays. Of course, I have not yet reached a stage to forget those who are close to me.
