The first day of April is the day when people play practical jokes, hoaxes, or tricks on one another. It has been celebrated for centuries in many different cultures. Its origin continues to be a mystery. It is believed by some to date back to 1582 when Frances changed their calendar from Julian to Gregorian. In the older Julian and Hindu calendars, the new year began with the Spring equinox on April 1. Some who had not gotten the news that the start of the new year had changed to January 1 were the butt of jokes that were called "April fools".
Did you play a trick on anyone today? I never can think of a good one.

Interesting. I haven't been spoofed or played a joke on someone for decades.

It seems to be something young people get more out of it.
