Sometimes a lower price is not a win

Sometimes it's better to get something for a higher price if there is free shipping than to get that same item elsewhere for less but have to pay a lot to have it delivered. I was looking for a sheet set and a duvet set from SouthShore Fine Linens for my mom. The duvet cover set was on sale at Macy's. With the discount and a coupon it came out to almost 50% off. Instead of $94 it turned out to be $47.59. Shipping was free. It was a no brainer. I went ahead and placed the order, totaling around $55, which includes tax. Unfortunately, the sheet set was not on sale at Macy's, priced at $102. I wasn't going to get it there and searched other sites where I could buy it. Found it at Nordstrom Rack where the price was around $78. I was ready to buy it as it's a big difference in price compared to Macy's but then it turned out that I'd have to fork over $9.95 for delivery as I was $11 shy from qualifying for free shipping. With tax the total would be around $95. I'd still save money but I decided to do another search to see if it's sold anywhere else. To my surprise I found it at Home Depot (didn't know they sell bedding stuff). It was slightly higher there (around $82) than at Nordstrom Rack but shipping was free. With tax the total came out to around $89. I went ahead and placed the order. Though the price was higher in the end the total was less.

The price including all the add ons is the important price right enough.

Hate it when it seems you have a bargain but then you add on shipping and stuff and it is not a bargain anymore.

I hate it when I buy something and then find that exact item cheaper elsewhere. I went to Trader Joe's and bought kumato tomatoes. They are $3.69 there. Went to the Russian store after that for something else and saw kumato tomatoes there for I think $2.49. I was not happy about that. But kumato tomatoes are not always sold at the Russian store though so why I got them at Trader Joe's when I saw them.

Never hurts to shop around. Home Depot has a little of everything. Found dish washer soap at a better price and higher amount then we get at the grocery store.

I've never seen bedding at the actual store. I guess online they can sell more variety of stuff than they actually do in the store.

I hate it when stores have a high minimum to qualify for free shipping and more so when I don't quite reach it.

Definitely. Never know where you will get the best deal till you shop around.

This is the reason why I shop around first before making a purchase.

@lovebuglena yup. Sometimes though, you get what you pay for and end up with a lower quality item.

That's smart to do. No reason to overpay when you can get it cheaper somewhere else.

See that is the trouble I know Lena. The dang delivery fees. The Home Depot is really great to check out sometimes, I agree.

My mom was shocked when I told her I got the sheet set from Home Depot. She had no idea they sell bedding stuff either.

I thought I'd just select the pick up in store option. I'd still have to pay $9.95 for that. Wow! Maybe that's because they don't actually have that in the store and it has to be delivered there.

Free delivery counts for a lot really. I'm glad you were able to find what you wanted.

It definitely does. Shipping prices are pretty high now. And free shipping requirements tend to have a high minimum you must spend to qualify.

I agree with you. Low price means the quality is also low.

Not necessarily. You can find the same item that costs a lot on one site on a different site for a lower price. Doesn't mean the quality is bad. It's just sold at a bigger discount.

@Adie04 don’t want to compromise on quality. My Russian store was selling scallions at 39 cents each. Usually they go for $1.49 now. Wow! Was ready to buy two bunches but came closer to look and they weren’t that good. Probably why price so low.

@lovebuglena I agree with that too. But unfortunately, there's one place here where it sells most items at a fixed price, but the quality is quite low.
