While the weather is regressing here today I’m stuck in a brief salute to summer in my monthlong countdown of songs that are turning 60 this year. Tomorrow starts a quick look at country music (sorry Linda). More surfing to come later, too. Meanwhile, here’s another gem from 1963. Surfin’ U.S.A. - The Beach Boys I’ve mentioned this before when using this song, but I’ll repeat it. Chuck Berry, who wasn’t anywhere near Brian Wilson when he wrote this, is listed as co-writer. That’s because this song is basically “Sweet Little Sixteen” with different lyrics. At least Brian didn’t make Chuck sue him. The only way I know what huarache sandals are is because of this song (“you’ll see them wearing their baggies, huarache sandals too”). And if some are you are going, “Oh, is that what he’s saying,” that’s okay, too. It’s all good fun, and this song certainly was, is, and ever shall be a theme song for fun. Surfin’ U.S.A. Written by Brian Wilson, Mike Love (uncredited), and Chuck Berry Recorded by The Beach Boys From Surfin’ U.S.A., 1963 We’re on safari to stay:

Well, at least you liked “Sweet Dreams.” You probably will get a headache from “Talk Back Trembling Lips.”

Think the manufacturers should give The Beach Boys a cut of their profits.

I bet The Beach Boys had a lot of those songs that you just couldn’t get out of your head, and even after not hearing the songs for twenty years you could still sing it again on the radio, word for word.

That’s so true. It seems like their songs are just part of American fabric.

I like this song too, it is a bop and one can't help but bop to it. The Beach boys are one of the bands I listen to when I was younger.

Had to turn a deaf ear to the radio is someone did not know this song. Although it was rather strange I remember because I constantly had the radio turned on and in NYC while the snow was falling there were people singing about going on a surfing safari

@FourWalls that one yes was probably her but also my neighbors growing up. The mother always had the Beach Boys on. I can't hear Little Deuce Coupe without thinking of her.
