Oh, it's that time again!

Yes, it's tornado season! Although to be fair, a tornado can happen any time of the year. We had one hit this past December. Yes, December! I remember thinking as the sirens went off that it just wasn't humid enough to warrant this nonsense. Last night our tornado sirens went off five times as my phone and television also blared warnings. I texted my dad to ask him to tell me if I was in the direct path of the tornado. He said he would so I turned the television to something else and tried to ignore the sirens and flickering lights. Watching the tracking map on the news just doesn't help me so I was just going to trust my dad. His house has an underground shelter, thankfully, while I'm on the top floor of my apartment building which is not helpful. Three people died in the tornadoes last night, but with the enormous amount of destruction it could have been worse. Although I'm sure that's cold comfort to the families of the victims. This morning I saw the video of one of the storm trackers in his helicopter from last night. Obviously, the pilots get close enough to show the storms, but they stay at a safe range. Well, somehow last night a rogue baseball sized piece of hail hit the windshield of the helicopter, and completely shattered it! As it was happening live, some colorful words you're not supposed to say on broadcast television (at least not in the United States) went out into a lot of people's homes! Thankfully, the pilot was able to land safely. I really don't enjoy spring and summer because of these things.

I saw some tornado interviews on the news. I missed the part about people getting killed though Does your apt complex have a basement you can head to in case of a tornado?

@snowy22315 I get in the bathtub, and cover myself with a blanket. I used to go to a neighbor's apartment who lived on the bottom floor of my apartment building, but he moved. I don't know anyone else here well enough to ask if I can take shelter in theirs.

Hello, welcome back, it was a while you were not around. Tornadoes are scary and the tornado season is approaching. Our mountains had tons of snow the past night, we had nothing during the whole winter and it's coming now.

I'm used to it because we get storm conditions year-round.

It shows the pilot is human. I'm glad you're safe and the pilot landed safely. I'm sorry for the loss of life.

That pilot is such a sweetheart. He's been on that network so long, and he reminds me of my late grandfather. If my grandfather were to curse, that is.

Wow, that poor pilot. No wonder he said a few choice words. Stay safe.

I know how you feel since hurricane season begins on June 1. Tornadoes are terrible storms to deal with.

I have seen and watched tornados strike down. They are devasting . I have seen dogs put into telephone posts, trees ripped up. It is not pretty what they can do. My oldest son and I did track down a tornado in Pueblo, Colorado. It is exciting but scary. Would I do it again? NO!

Tornadoes are never a fun thing, but also just a part of life. Every season has its things that get in the way of a good day for many people.

Tornado You will find me under our bed and hiding. An underground shelter is a great idea. I have seen the damage tornado can do. Sad for the families who lost loved ones I'm glad we don't have them here

That sounds frightening. I always think of you when I hear about tornadoes in the US at this time of the year. Do you have a safe place to go to to ride out such storms safely with your cellphone?
