Quality of milk

Here in India gone are the days when bottled milk produced a lot of cream from which we used to make ghee - ghee is heated cream on slow fire. But what we get today is safe for those who fear cholesterol and calorie count. When I was buying Cadbury chocolates in New Zealand those travelling with me in that group reminded me that they are made in India and why I was wasting my foreign exchange and then I had to tell them about the quality of milk. They understood. Those chocolates were so good. How good is the milk that you get where you live? Image credit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dairy_cattle

That's a Holstein in your photo. You need a Jersey or Guernsey to get decent cream in your milk.

I have already talked about the pathetic quality of milk that is supplied to us whether Government or private.

@sallypup Nice to know you are an authority . I just posted that photo which is of a cow probably from NZ. Why is it a plague?

LadyDuck had mentioned awhile back how she buys chocolates made from a certain country as the chocolate tastes better. I know she likes Lindt. I hate milk I only use it in coffee and cereal and only use enough in my cereal to wet it.

@allknowing I love Ferraro roche and Godiva. Both are expensive so I have rarely had them.

I am a chocolate foodie myself and have tasted original chocolates from several countries and find Belgium chocolates the best - their Godiva. I have tasted Lindt as well and many others made in Switzerland but chocolates made in other countries are no less. Internet thinks Ferrero Rocher is the best and I have tasted that as well - original

I just don’t drink milk, and haven’t for a very long time. I’m not much of a chocolate person either. But I have noticed when I’ve been to the store that milk is becoming more expensive.

Milk has changed a lot here too. Now it can be kept for a couple of months unopened. When I was small, the milk came in glass bottles and we opened it to take out the cream with our fingers and lick it. The milk would last for a day without turning sour. Then my grandma would make cheese with the sour milk.

The only thing I can successfully make is curds (yoghurt) which I have every day with honey lunch time. Wonder why the quality of your milk has gone down.

You don't think the milk might have been contaminated by you kids sticking your grubby little fingers into it?

I do not know about your country but cows here no matter form where they arrive they do not produce the kind of milk that New Zealand cows for example produce. We have Jersey Cows and they are a wee better than other cows.

I have seen those huge cans when I was visiting some of my relatives and friends but they normally return half used cans and that milk I suppose is thrown away

I have to contradict Jimbo, we have the best milk in the world here in Switzerland. I am kidding, milk is excellent quality here, our cows are grass fed and do not live closed in stables. I think that Denmark also has an excellent milk.

Unless you own your own cow the milk has been processed

When I was younger the whole milk used to separate out and cream would collect on top. When I moved to the US I found that milk sold there was homogenized - then when I came back here three years later the milk here was homogenized too! I don't know why that change was introduced.

@Fleura Have you ever heard anyone asking for opinions before taking decisions?(lol) Probably they want to sell cream as a product.

Probably they want the quality of milk to stay intact without the cream being separated - just saying.

You're so lucky to have access in good fresh quality of milk. It's kind a rare here to buy fresh milk, actually so far I've seen none. It's always processed milk already selling in the market.

The cattle owners supply milk to government sources and they pasturize the milk pack the milk and supply to customers.
