It’s International Wild Koala Day today which is a great excuse for me to put up this photo that we took in a wildlife park in Adelaide. I think I've used it before but I like it. I suppose he was able to pull himself back up to the branch and didn’t have to just drop to the ground. Koalas are a great Australian icon but aren’t always sweet and cuddly. They will scratch and bite if they’re not used to humans, but they certainly look cute. And the baby ones are the cutest of course. The babies of most species are cuter than their parents.

That's one of the funniest pics of a koala I've seen! He looks confused. Most of the pics I've seen and the koalas I've seen in rea life are ust peacefully sleepin in the trees

They certainly do a lot of sleeping. It amazes me that they don't fall out of their trees.

Maybe you can tell me, why do so many of the koala population have chlamydia? I believe I heard Terri Irwin talking about it once, and how the population in the wild has been infiltrated with it. That part of the world is so good with caring for the koala population I wondered how close they are to getting that under control. Koalas are just such amazing animals.

It seems it's transmitted sexually in adults but young koalas can also become infected by eating pap, a nutricious type of faeces excreted by the mother. They are learning more about it all the time but I don't know that they're any closer to a cure. They can treat it with antibiotics but often they don't catch the disease in time.

Yes, they do look scrawny at first then when they get their downy feathers they look really cute. Scorpions never get past the uglies.

I find baby birds pretty ugly too. At least till they get their feathers.

I never see them like this normally - not that I see a lot of them.

This one surely looks cute. I can understand that for animals biting and scratching is an auto defense mode. If they never saw humans they may feel scared (and they are right to be).

@JudyEv It is the same for most animals, they try to protect themselves.

Yes, that's exactly what is going on. They feel threatened and scared so they try to defend themselves.

He does look like he's exercising, doesn't he? I'm sure he didn't drop out of the tree or I would have remembered.
