John Koerber who lives in Hendersonville North Carolina was taking his six year old dog who is a Yorkie named ChewB who took a bathroom break neat his home on Sunday morning at 4am when they met a black bear face to face. When the bear went after the dog, John hit the black bear with a walking stick in the head, leg and nose in an effort to keep the bear from harming his dog. The bear walked away from the dog and his owner while the duo went inside their home safely. John insists he loves bears and he would never harm one. At least this bear encounter had a happy ending. Hey, my dog comes first, the bear second. I'm glad though, that everyone walked away unharmed.

That is true since bears by nature will attack a human when a human messes with the bear eating food.

I would do the same if an animal came after my pet.

It was indeed a miracle that John was able to shoo the bear away from his dog.

I have no idea why John would take his dog for a walk before sunrise myself since I am sleeping at that hour.

It's fortunate the bear walked away. I would do so too, If I were in your place. You still had the presence of mind to do something to protect your son.

I never would have thought a bear encounter would end like that, the yorkie was lucky, little dogs like that can easily become food for hawks, eagles, coyotes and other predators. This is why I have big dogs.

I am in agreement with you that having a medium or large dog is needed as a pet.

John admitted that he was going to protect his dog no matter what it took to defend his pet from being attacked by the bear.

That sounds like quite a lucky escape for the dog and the owner.

The dog and his owner were lucky that the black bear is afraid of noise and humans.

Black bears are shy when they see humans. I guess the bear saw the dog as his meal.

I like seeing bears in documentaries as well. I am just wondering if Black bears are the only type of bear that is scared of noise.
