What is the driving age in your country? State?

Israel

In California the driving age is 16, and I got my license the first time that I took the test. But here in Israel, the driving age is 18 and it is very expensive to take driving lessons. Many people I know have taken the test 4 or 5 times, before passing. Does this make them a better driver? What is your experience with this?

You can get your license in Oklahoma at 16, and your learners permit at 15 1/2, which, if people who aren't familiar, means you can drive with another licensed adult. Do they MAKE you take driving lessons in Israel before getting your license? I didn't get any before I got my license here in Oklahoma. Maybe it's harder to drive in Israel. I definitely don't think people who take the tests 4 or 5 times before passing makes them a better driver than the person who passed the first time around. But, you never know... I passed the first time around, both the written, and the driving. I was nervous about parallel parking, but my dad really worked with me on it.

I missed a point because I didn't park close enough to the curb but that was the only thing I had a problem with. I got my license the first time, too.

In China, we only start driving licenses at the age of 18. We need to take four exams, which usually take at least three months to complete

In the US the age of permission to drive with your permit is 16.5 years old. Your legal age to have your license is 18 depending on the state within the US which can change with permission or testing. Each state does its testing for both permits and licenses. Usually, a form of both paper and physical driving to show you understand and know the rules of the road which does change a little from state to state but not by much. The basics are the same across the US. I got my permit at 15.5 years old which was allowed in the State of Colorado but when we moved to Virginia, I had to wait till I was 16.5 years old. When I went to take the test in Virginia, I failed like 4 times because it's online and not paper with me having a learning disability it's not like I have someone read the question for me. Which I probably would have passed sooner if I did. I didn't get my driver's license till I was 18 almost 19 years old. Having a license, it's much easier to move from state to state.

Maybe, by failing people once or twice, they make them more aware of the dangers of driving. Or maybe they just want more revenue.

Here is for Colorado in specific Start at age 15 up to 15 and 6 months: Colorado requires teens to have a driving permit for 12 full months before applying for a license. So, if you want to get your license on your 16th birthday, you'll need to start the process before you turn 15.

That’s an interesting question. Since I passed 16 a long time ago I’ve never considered what the driving age is anymore. Kentucky is an agricultural state, so there are provisions for “farm driving” for people under 16. When I was a teenager our high school had driver’s education classes, and parents got an insurance discount if the kid had taken it and gotten a good grade. I don’t think schools in the US offer driver’s education anymore.

Here in Switzerland (as well as most European countries) it is 18. It is very expensive also here in Switzerland to take driving lessons and you also need to take first aid lessons to get your driving license. I notice that Swiss drivers are a lot better than Italian drivers (my native country). It's not difficult to get a driver license in Italy... particularly if you know the "right guy".

It depends... If the person lives on a farm, they can start driving farm machinery, on the farm only, at 13 years old. (I live in Missouri. I know other states have different starting ages but all states let a person who passes their test drive at 18, In Missouri, as long as you can pass the driver's test, you can drive at 16 on the roads and highways.) I learned to drive a tractor on our farm at 13. Then was allowed to drive the tractor on the country roads between pastures but wasn't allowed to drive the tractor on the main roads. I passed my driving test at 16 years old on the first try.

In my country, the age is 18. Driving lessons aren't expensive. This is because a humongous number of people in the country earns their bread and butter through driving.
