Cheap but healthy

They are normally thrown out by most but are filled with goodness and they are chicken feet. I have fed them to our pet dogs and now I feed them to cats. I pressure cook them and deep freeze them and take out portions every day and this portion is heated once again with the soup that is collected while pressure cooking them. Our dogs never had bone issues as they take care of osteoporosis I have made soup for myself as well. Earlier the stores gave them away free but now they charge a small amount. Apparently many have found out how healthy they are Is there anything that you eat that is normally thrown away? https://www.chickenindia.org/chicken-feet-nutrition-and-benefits/

When I was a kid, the stores gave away chicken livers, heart and gizzards. Mom cooked those for our dinners and I LIKE gizzards! Now, they sell them and they aren't cheap.

Dried chicken feet are sold in pets stores, they are good for dogs and cats. In Italy chicken gizzards and cockscombs were given away free to those who bought chicken. I liked them both.

@allknowing Fresh chicken feet are no more for sale, I do not remember the reason, but they are not for sale. Right now all chicken interiors are not for sale because of the avian flu.

I used to take the leafy ends of beets, chop them up, and put them in my omelettes. Most people don't think about the health benefits they provide.

I have heard about chicken feet for pets. My husband in Latvia taught me how to make and eat beef lungs, They were very delicious, I would cook them and then we'd grind them and I would stuff them in pancakes,

Beef lungs are costly here. These days I do not eat meat or fish. Not just for pets many like chicken feet as they are actually very tasty.

You must have been trained by your Mom but in our case that was not the case. There is so much that is wasted and skins do have health properties.

May I ask how you prepare it for your dogs? Do you take the tiny bones out one by one? 'Cause I've tried it before and it's a lot of work..

When they are pressure cooked the bones become soft and there are no splinters. I just wash them thoroughly and add some water. The stuff is then separated from the soup chopped into tiny bits and made into small packets that are frozen. Every day one packet is thawed heated and served with a bit of soup. They just love it.
