Strange Old World

About the tenth of the month I look forward to the plop of mail dropping onto the floor, as that is the moment the Fortean Times arrives! If you are fascinated by ghosts, cryptids (animals unknown to science), UFOs, the supernatural and general weird goings on, then this is the magazine for you. As I like a good walk along the canal, I am enjoy stories about strange animals spotted in, and along, the UK’s canals, my favourite being an alleged chimpanzee roaming the wilds of Shropshire’s canals. Around here, there are tales of the Yiewsley Sturgeon, but can’t say I have spotted the illusive aquatic beastie… yet!

@Ronrybs Wouldn't that be something? You may even find some new kind of something or other in your travels of your own. You could send it into that magazine.

I enjoy listening about supernatural, I am fascinated by ghosts stories. Last year some people pretended there were a lion in the wood, when they finally found the "beast" it was a big dog.

@Ronrybs - No, old people who surely had a bad eye sight and just spotted "a shape" in the woods behind their houses.

There is supposed to be some unearthly creature down around Bridgetown. There is now video footage of it and it looks very much like a panther. Maybe one escaped from a circus at some stage. I hope you keep your eyes peeled when you're walking. I can't say I'm in favour of ever coming face-to-face with some strange creature.

Big cats is a popular one, especially in the South West of England. Mind you, there are some unearthly creatures around closing time!

I used to buy that magazine years ago and I am pleased to see that it is still being printed. There was a television programme about the Fortean Times that was presented by a man who was some sort of vicar. I think he used to ride around on a motorbike looking for places where there had been supernatural activity.

@Ronrybs You have re-woken my interest in this subject now so I looked him up online. His name is Robert Lionel Fanthorpe who has his own Wikipedia page. Apparently he did lots of other jobs during his working life.
