I know better

The thumb drive that came with my computer was not what I thought it was. It was a way to connect to the wifi.
When you get a new computer you are supposed to make a back up disk or drive. I did not with this one, so I am out of luck.
So for now I shall make do with my laptop.
There are worse things.
I will likely hook up the mouse and keyboard to the laptop. It will function much better. I will either go have a repair place look at my desk top or I will just get another refurbished one.
Not the most important thing on my list for now, so I will survive.
Maybe there is a way to download a driver. We shall see.

Good luck with it. I have my son fix these issues because I’m clueless with computers.

I think there is a small computer repair shop in one or another of the nearby small towns. I think this may be an easy fix for them.

I have never done a backup. This most recent laptop I am using is not that great. I should have waited and gotten a better one. I saw this one had the back key lighting so I jumped on it.

I have not been happy with this laptop, and I wish I had waited for something better.

I found it but it was not what was needed. I will probably take this to a shop.

Well, you'll probably find what you wanted once you no longer need or want it. Happens to me all the time.

I can relate to this, I'm without wifi and I'm using my phone, that's why I'm not writing right now.

Last May my router and my computer and my printer got fried in a storm. It is very frustrating.

I had a desktop get fried last year, and bought this one refurbished. Some of my stuff automatically transferred over somehow.

Most of that is Greek to me. I don't think I've ever made a back up disk with a new computer. I have a service that backs up my files automatically every day. Good luck with the computer. Have a great weekend.

I know you mentioned that, but it seemed like they had a problem with your recent computer issue. Did they ever find all of your files?

@GardenGerty They found all of my files and most of my pictures. I was able to re-download some wedding pictures that were lost.

I'd be lost. I'm always going to have to live near my brother-in-law or a friend of the family named Quentin, because they deal with my computer problems. My BIL is three hours away, so for now I'm thankful for Quentin. Perhaps I need to send him to Kansas!

I think there is a small shop in the next town that I will contact, when I have some money. Waiting on pay day.

@GardenGerty It’s one of those times we wish God had blessed us with IT genius. Not that I don’t enjoy being an unlimited fountain of baseball knowledge…But it’s not really handy in every day life.

I did not know about this at all. No one ever told me. I never had computer classes and learned everything the hard way by trial and error, mostly error.
I think you can download a driver. Once, a guy in our park loaded one on an old computer. I did not have internet and I had no idea how to use what he loaded.

I know that for a printer if I lose the startup disc I can download a driver, but the way this problem is presenting I am stumped. I think one of the times I got a brand new computer it said to make a backup disc. Maybe now I am just supposed to send it to the cloud. I am not as knowledgeable as I may sound.

@GardenGerty The average five-year-old probably knows more about the phone/laptop than I do.

I think it should be an easy repair if I can find someone I trust nearby.
