Is It Karma Or What?

Is it Karma or what? I am a night person. I'm retired and receive Social Security. There is no reason why I need to be up in the bright morning time. I usually don't get to sleep until 3a. or even 4a—most mornings. It seems that SS has people calling seniors to see if they need special programs they have going on. What they do is have a caller call and verify your name, birth date, and address and then have you sit on hold while they try to get an 'agent' available on the line.
I have never been able to talk to an agent, they are never available. So, basically, SS is wasting the caller's and my time WHEN I COULD BE SLEEPING.

When I have only gotten about four hours of sleep these calls are very irritating. The rest of the day I am grumpy and have very little energy to do the few things I do each day.
I could just turn off my phone but then what if there is an emergency and someone tries to call who has a real reason to speak to me?
Plus, today and yesterday the lawn crew has been out in full force. (Of course, I have my window open. It's summertime.) And, yesterday maintenance was up on the roof drilling and pounding from 9a. until about 11a.
I hope that perhaps Saturday and Sunday I will get to sleep for a while.
End of rant(?)

Some that call don't even speak good English so I really wonder sometimes.
Thanks.

I would definitely suspect a scam. The SS office has no reason to be calling individuals for their programs. They have a website for this; and the SS office is way too busy to be making calls like this. If there are foreigners on the line, it's not likely that it's legit.

It's not a scam. It is an Advantage plan that is(or can be) added to your Medicare.

@celticeagle We have a Medicare Advantage plan. We used to get dozens of calls from non-SS people trying to get us to join up.

That sucks you're not getting sleep. SSA will never call you unless you request a call back after calling them. These phone calls that you're getting are a popular scam. That's why you never really talk to them. When it comes to your phone, you can use do not disturb, and only let people in that are important to you. Friends, family, etc. It won't stop the calls, but will reduce the number of times you hear the phone ring.

It's not SSA. It is a program for extra programs called SS Advantage. They have been calling for ages. I guess I need to know how to set the Do Not Disturb up on my phone. I am still using how to use it. Thanks.

@celticeagle You're welcome. And, a rule of thumb, no self-respecting business is going to call you out of the blue. Not unless you call them first and request a call back. Be aware of that.

@kaylachan .........I don't think you understand.....It's regarding added programs Medicare recipients might have coming.

@LadyDuck ........I figure if they want bad enough they can leave a message. But I don't care for the ringing early in the morning. I am going to try using the Do Not Disturb on my phone.

@celticeagle We have a landline phone, not in our bedroom. The landline phone has an answering machine, I am no more stressed about being available every moment of the day and the night.

I decline the call when I know it is them. The number is set up a certain way and I can tell.

@celticeagle I have some new insurance and stuff. I sometimes answer because there are different numbers and I'm never sure if it is the insurance people calling. I hang up on the unwanted calls. I know it is not polite or nice but I can't deal with intruders calling all the time.

As everyone gets older, sleeping disorder is inevitable especially when the person is sick. I don't think karma has something to do for that.

This situation has nothing to do with a sleeping disorder.

Not getting enough sleep is often a big rant of myself.
A part of the problem is my own tendency to sleep after 12 AM.(Midnight)
So I try to cover some sleep on rhe weekends.
Of course if certain things come up on the weekends, it becomes a bigger challenge.

It is very irritating to have a call wake you up.
