Despite being positive, May was a really bad month here.

OH, was it ever! Son had a surgical procedure. It didn't go as planned and he was in the hospital for days. Then, for some reason no one can explain to us, his old Blue Cross health insurance was suddenly listed as the primary provider for his meds, etc. No one, not his former employer nor him or anyone else, has paid it since last November. It had been removed from the pharmacy files, etc. Suddenly the first of May, there it was again. We contacted the company, after endless phone calls back and forth, they said it was probably a computer fault on their end and they would ''work on it''...um, when someone needs meds or they are going to be in grave danger, ''working on it'' is not enough. He cannot work right now; he is just too sick. He applied for and got a medical card. And they had been paying for his pharmaceutical needs. Then the snarl hit. Then Medicaid claimed it was Bue Cross's fault, and Blue Cross claimed it was Medicare's. In 2 weeks, I drove him to the state office TEN times, 24 miles round trip when he was feeling so terrible. Friday, they told us it would be fixed in a week. Meanwhile, still NO MEDS!! Mama Bear doesn't hardly ever get mad, it's just not what I do as I know it solves absolutely nothing. But this was so frustrating, 'round and 'round they sent us, from one place to another. Finally yesterday, I went to the pharmacy. I waited a long time to talk to the pharmacist, who had been trying in vain to get around all of this mess and get son his medications. She found a number patients of Blue Cross could contact if they had problems. She called them, but even she was on hold for so long, she had me call them as of course they are short-staffed and busy. FINALLY, I found a person with empathy and a brain!!! They fixed it at last, said it would clear in 24 hours when their computers re-set. No, I didn't believe them. But today, the pharmacy called a bit ago and told us they were ready for pick-up!!!! I battle for myself and my loved ones, but this was just a month of pure hell. I hope we never have to do that again. Oh, and add to it that we have been in the ER twice this week, as the lack of meds made him so terribly ill. Hopefully, we, or no one else, ever has to go through all of that. June just has to be better now than messy May was!! Picture from Pixabay.

Although I do not fully understand your healthcare system, this sounds like it is more of a healthcare-less system. I am sorry that you and your family had to endure this. I hope that things go much smoothly now as it sounds like the bugs have been ironed out. Way to go for seeing it through.

Our healthcare system is not what people think it is. It's just very hard sometimes to wade through all the red tape. My brain feels fried!

@Juliaacv I think he may have been spot on, Juliaacv. It is clearly lacking and does not run smoothly or well. It sounds like you are fortunate to even be here after all of that, how terrible for anyone to have to go through that. I'm sorry.

@Juliaacv Oh, it sounds like such a hard time for anyone to go through, let alone a kid. I know some children can be so mean and bully others terribly. Yes, surgeries have changed so much over the years. Now they seem to slap you in there, fix it, and if you can still breathe, they send you home. I am glad you made it and were able to recover!!

I'm so sorry for all that you have gone through, Marie. That's terrible. How could they do that to a patient who needs meds? I'm glad though that you were able to finally get your son's medications. I pray that he gets better and recovers soon. I'm praying too that you will have the courage and strength to endure all these. Take care and keep going, my dear.

Today I was picking up the meds and thinking, well, you remember your motto is ''never give up'' and you didn't...but it was so, so hard. Almost a month of hurdles. Thank you so much, sweetie.

@Jenaisle For me, that motto has served me well. I can't give up. You just keep fighting for the underdog/person in need/person that hurts/and so many more as well as yourself.

He felt so physically terribly with no meds, that he was very depressed over it as well. It was not a good scenario. The other night he was really in trouble and we ended up at the hospital. Thank you, Amber.

@CarolDM I haven't lost my positive attitude yet...don't plan on that, either. I see many people who always focus on the negatives in life. It seems many people LIKE being negative. They don't try to change...and they could. Look at yourself. You lost the person the most dear to you in the entire universe. And here you are, being positive, spreading joy, and I for one know that has to be very hard at times. Thank you for being so kind to me, Carol.

Thank you, Carol. This one nearly put ME under. I was just so stressed. I tried so hard, and so did he. We got nowhere for so long, and without meds he was so sick. I am trying to brace myself for whatever lies ahead and stay positive.

That has been a terrible ordeal. At times, things take such kind of turns for us. I hope that the things are fully sorted for you now. I have heard that Blue Cross is very popular and has a good reputation. I don't know why a mix up got into being, but perhaps such things do happen sometimes. Have a blessed time ahead !

@MarieCoyle A few years back, there was a big controversy and arguments between Insurance Companies and the hospitals in India. The hospitals were accused of high inflated charges. The matter is still not fully sorted. The cost of medical treatment in private hospitals is high, although quality is mostly better. Government hospitals charge less but they are more crowded and apart from a few, others have quality issues although the doctor themselves are well trained.

I hear nightmare stories about insurance all the time here in the US, so I shouldn't be surprised. Maybe I can write a book about ways to fix disastrous messes like this? On second thought, no..it would be too frustrating. Thank you!

I picked up four prescriptions. The other day, I asked how much it would be to just pay for them. With GoodRX, nearly $5,000. So, the fight just went on, I can't do that. Thank you so much.

Most people are not rich enough to pay for prescription medications, they often run into the thousands of dollars per month. I asked how much his would be to pick up if I paid for them for the month--over $5,000 dollars. That's a ton of money in the US.
