A compliment

Please, I beg all parents to teach their children how to clean a bathroom. I'm with a lot of young people and I was amazed that most of them have never cleaned a bathroom. We have a rotation schedule for cleaning the restroom at work and a check off list when it's completed, I had assumed that it was done only to find out it wasn't after the employee had left for their shift. So my manager said we will have to show them how. When restroom cleaning time came, I was swamped with my own work, so I took this young lady, age 16, aside and explained how. This child didn't even know where the disposable gloves were! Later the manager asked me did I show her how, I replied with a no, I just explained how it's done. He told me that the restrooms were clean and that I should be the one to teach the other customers service managers how to explain the cleaning process because they suck at it. That was a nice compliment but how am I, the newbie, tell the other two how to do their job?

It's amazing what kids do not know how to do now. I have hired high school valedictorians that have never used a broom or a mop. Never cleaned a bathroom or washed a dish. And an incredible amount of them absolutely cannot count back change at alll!!! Seriously, if the register fails to do it for them, they cannot count the change back!! All schools are going to have to pick up the slack, I guess. We need classes for kids on everyday living, how to pay bills, how to budget, how to clean and cook. They can't even boil water. It's pretty sad. My kids learned all of these things growing up. They can all cook and have common sense. It should be taught at home, but sadly, it's not.

What you say is so true. In particular, the counting change is a worry. Some of this stuff needs to be taught at home as more and more seems to be foisted off onto school teachers.

@JudyEv I taught my own children to count change and make change when they were little bitty kids. It's not hard. I just wanted them to know, so they knew at a young age how to keep track of what they should pay and get back. You are so right, teachers cannot do everything.

Parents should be instilling these things in their children by having them do chores. Other things, like budgeting, can be taught in high school. Have a good weekend.

I don't understand how they got to that age without knowing how to properly clean. My mom taught me young, and she also taught me I better do it right the first time or I'd find myself doing it all over again!

That is a nice compliment. Sadly many kids don't have to clean anything anymore while growing up

If they were raised on a farm and had those chores daily, life would be different.

If you do tell the others, I don't suppose they'll thank you for it.

When I got drunk at probably 16 and was vomiting my mom made me clean the toilet that’s how I learned. I told her a Princess shouldn’t have to clean a toilet .

It is good you are there to teach them, so now they will know. All in a days work I guess.

My kids are 12 and 10 and 8 don't know how to clean a bathroom yet. I don't expect them to either it's a living thing and not all parents have the time to teach. Some parents are stay-at-home parents, and they do all of the cleaning. I hardly as a kid had to clean my bathroom. My kids have seen me clean there. yes, currently I have them each doing a task in their shared bathroom. Only because I'm tired of declogging the toilet that one of them keeps stocking up to the point I can't even clean the damn toilet. So I've put the oldest in charge of cleaning the toilet she keeps stuffing, The littlest gets the sink and tub because he is pretty small, and I don't want him using the strong chemical yet. The middle one gets to clean the bathroom floor and find out how soapy it gets from his little brother making caked-in all the different soap. I will state also some of us people just suck at cleaning depending on their personality. Like if you have a certain time of behavior or learning disability. Since clearly all of us in my house have those types of brains cleaning is just a difficult task to do. Start or complete.

I am stunned Angie. What is wrong with parents not to teach their kids how to clean?

I mean they need to know so they can be self sufficient adults, at least I think so.

That was a nice compliment that you got. I was in a bad store where I worked and the bathroom was locked at night and people would get mad that they could not use it.

Oh, very nice compliment indeed! I wouldn't want the job of explaining to the other CSMs that they suck at explaining how to clean a restroom, either. Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll manage just fine.

I'm not. It's the manager and assistant management of the store to do it.
