Chunky Dunking for the Swim

Have you ever gone chunky dunking? You know that old meme, "we don't skinny dip, we chunky dunk?" It's a real thing and not just something witty someone made up recently. My photo is something I found on the web but doesn't have an author. According to chunky dunk got org, the first formal fat swim was at a NAAFA convention in 1969. There's a swim team called the Padded Lillies. Yes, being overweight is not healthy but does not give others the right to shame the obese person nor does it mean a robust person cannot enjoy swimming in something other than a full suit. With that said, please do not comment how the obese person should eat. Most of us know how to eat healthy. The ChunkDunks began in Portland, Oregon in rented public pools where all bodies are respected. There is one in Pugent Sound, WA where I'll be later this summer. I hope to go and enjoy with no worries of a snoot spouting off their mouths. Some people bully others using disparaging humor which is belittling and not funny (Oh, my eyes! You glow in the dark, your so pale!) If you get upset, they claim one has no sense of humor. Sorry bub. Humor isn't funny when it hurts others. That's a different post another time. Here's a bit about ChunkyDunk. Would you do it?

I would not mind swimming since I am overweight and swimming is good exercise.

No one should shame another person because of their weight .

Bullying the others is rude, wrong and discriminating. People should be free to enjoy doing what they like to do without being exposed to body shaming.

@noni1959 - We have some ladies who have not a lot to do and love to gossip about the neighbors. Thanks god those are not numerous and all the others avoid them.

There are so many that judge and assume. There are some that will look in other's carts and make rude comments.

@LadyDuck America can have some nosy people and some that get offended over nothing. We get a lot of women that have been given the name "Karen" over how they get into other's business and cause scenes. I wish they used a different name but they are so awful.

Some friends and I used to skinny dip when we were in our twenties on January 1st in one of the lakes in our part of Missouri.

@noni1959 My dad used to tell stories about him and his friends doing all kinds of things like that when they were teenagers. (But that was an older generation, too. Dad was born in 1909.) We had a creek running through our farm but, as far as I know, none of us skinny dipped in it.

@noni1959 Dad's parents owned a farm but they were killed in farming accidents. Dad, his oldest brother and their oldest sister all dropped out of school to get jobs so they could raise their three younger siblings. Dad was in third grade when that happened.

I probably wouldn't but I have no objections about others doing it. And yes, if comments hurt others, then they're not funny.

Many who make rude comments try to claim they didn't mean harm and the other has no sense of humor. I believe most grew up in homes that made fun of them and others too so it's learned behavior.

@JudyEv I try to be quiet and walk away from those types but once in a while I'll say something like they have no idea what humor is.

Would I do it... well I don't know that I would go to a swim session specifically for anyone of a certain body shape. I go swimming quite often and I see people of all shapes and sizes there.

At the pool I was going to, all shapes and ages went. There were those that stared and the occasional comment. The idea of this other is to all be without worry of shaming.

I feel those who are fat they can swim even better. According to Archimedes principle greater is the weight higher is the chance of more displacement of water.

fat floats more too. Some think will sink but not from what I have read or been a part of. I can't swim to the bottom as my own bottom brings me back up.

@noni1959 thanks Loretta then you are an expert swimmer

@noni1959 another thing is in India there are restrictions on types of swimming suits one has to wear. I know in USA and Europe there are no restrictions and one does not need to wear anything for swimming
