My Sister and I Made Two Rain Machines

My sister and I were staying on Grandma's farm for a week. I'd say we were about eight and twelve years old. We heard Grandma complaining to a friend, how badly they needed rain that summer. There hadn't been a rain cloud in sight, for over a month. My sister and I decided we'd do something to help this situation. We spent most of an afternoon building two rain machines. They consisted of two old boards we found, spike nails, cord string wound between about six nails, small mason jars 1/2 filled with water and control knobs that we had made. After finishing these beauties, we were excited to show them to Grandma. She smiled but didn't share our enthusiasm, which brought a little disappointment. Grandma said, "OK, that's nice. How do they work?" We proceeded to show her, but, she still didn't display any excitement about these inventions. Oh, Well! So Lyna and I went into the back yard and proceeded to twist those strings around the nails and we did a few more gimmicks to get things in motion. Within two hours, clouds moved in it seemed, out of nowhere and showers started pouring down out of the sky! There was a heavy cloudburst Grandma ran out the back door and just about swallowed her dentures! We almost simaltaneously said, "See? We told you our rain machines would work!" What a sweet story. You girls had faith and it was rewarded. In an unconventional way, but a blessing none the less.
