Buying Some Used Paperback Books

We have a place in Tawas City, where I can buy used books. The paperback books are cheap, about 25 cents. I will purchase a couple books, read them and then give them to the library. The library has a few shelves of books, just inside the door at City Hall. These are free for the taking and also, I can contribute some books for other people. I knew other cities had it available, but I didn't know Tawas had started doing this. I have about ten books someone else will be happy to read. It's an easy way to obtain books to read and also share with other readers Photo: Mine

Our small city has converted the old phone booths in small libraries. You can drop up to 5 books and get 5 books free.

@kobesbuddy It was such a wonderful idea. I often bring old books that I do not need anymore and pick up something to read.

That was a wonderful way to recycle those phone booths and various books, too!

I hardly ever read books with pages anymore. I prefer electronic methods, but if I do want a book, I will find find something at the Little Free Library. I donate maybe 4 or 5 and take one.

I don't like staring at a screen, it hurts my eyes. I have cataracts and the optometrist said I shouldn't do that. I love regular books, it keeps my mind from dwelling on negative thoughts.

I used to love our local used bookstore. With the popularity of e-readers, ours eventually shut down.

@kobesbuddy That's really cool. The last time I was at the library there was a moderate crowd, but when they have the yearly sale of library books they are done with, people really show up. My mom loved that event. I'd like to see more little kids at the library myself.

Our libraries are both very busy. There are people milling in and out all week long. East Tawas City Hall is in the same building, right next door. The free books are on two shelves, right inside the door.

I use books to take me away, from anxiety and worrying.

We have two branches and one main library within a short drive from us. When they have book sales they are really terrific, especially the main library. That's where I've gotten most of my books. I really need to start reading again.

I got back to reading about five years ago. It has helped keep my mind off worrying and various problems. Some of the issues never even happened!

@LindaOHio I was never an avid reader, as a young girl. I was usually outdoors, doing something else. Now I like being indoors, so reading is a wonderful pastime. I love it!

@kobesbuddy I know once I start reading again that I won't be able to put the book down; but it's just getting started that I'm having trouble with. I don't know why.

There is a place not far from me that I can also get 25cent books. If I find some I like, I usually read them and pass them to the assisted living not far from me. They love books and share them among themselves, so it's all good. Nice of you to share, as well, Kharla.

We have an assisted living home and three other facilities for the disabled. I never thought to donate books there, thanks for this wonderful idea:)

@kobesbuddy One lady told me she loves romance books. I don't really read those, but I bought her a few and took them to her, she was thrilled. They are so appreciative and love the attention.

I wish I could do that with some of my paper books. I´ll have to check whether anyone wants some.

That’s cool. There are “little libraries” around as well, little boxes built with the “take one or leave one” philosophy. Pass those books around!

And when someone is finished with my books, they can share them, too!

The public library here won't accept books anymore. I tried to give them boxes of books several years ago.

Sounds like a great thing to do and you can enjoy reading the books in the meantime,

I wish our library did that. We do have the free book box at the par. I take books up there to swap.

City Hall is the same as our Community Center. That's where people in East Tawas work, to keep things in the city running smoothly.
