I love bananas. My grandson and I nearly fight over the last one. I am now finding that these yellow delights have some added goodness. Here is a list of the perks of these gems:
* Instantly lower blood sugar levels. Note, however, those with type 2 diabetes should eat unripe bananas because they rank lower on the glycemic index than a ripe bananas.
* Help to manage insulin levels.
* Bananas offer us 11 percent of the RDI(Recommended Daily Intake)for Vitamin C, Offer 33 percent of the RDI for Vitamin B6, 8 percent of the RDI for magnesium, and 3 grams of fiber.
* That same banana also gives you 0.4 grams of fat, about 1.3 grams of protein, and about 105 calories.
* Many studies indicate that dietary fiber can improve digestion in most people. One medium-sized banana contains about 3 grams of fiber(pectin and resistant starch types) and these are helpful in an improved digestive system. ( Some studies say that pectin can lower the chances of developing colon cancer)
* Bananas are rich in potassium which is essential to good heart health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in our country.
I am a real fan of bananas. Are you?

I buy and eat a lot of bananas and prefer them still partly green. I like the astringency.

@AmbiePam
Pretty tells me if she will want any bananas and I'll leave them on the table in the kitchen until they start turning brown and then gripe at her until she does something with them.

I enjoy a banana now and then, yes. But I am picky about my bananas--they have to be on the green side, I hate them when they get mushy.

I totally agree. The greener the better.

If they get mushy, they get turned into banana bread for the kids, or I mash the bananas up and freeze them to use later. One of the worst things ever, an over-ripe, mushy banana. Yuck.

I love bananas but cannot always get them. I order groceries once a month so when I get some bananas I have to eat them quickly,

I like a banana before it has brown spots on it. It is still firm and sweet.
