It seems to me that the best time for weight loss is during the more active time of the year. To me that is spring and summer. It seems that everyone wants to get on a diet during this time hoping to lose some poundage. To me diets are of no practicle use whats so ever. You diet and you might even lose a few pounds but, then you go off the diet and back to your usual diet and the pounds just come right back. The trick to really losing weight is to commit to eating a better diet and stick with it. Not just during the 'diet'. Find things you will eat continuously amd keep it all in your diet. So, the next step is to choose foods which are filling, nutritional and tasty. Here is a list of just such foods you could add to your grocery list:
* Berries -- These are a great choice. Eat more berries than other fruit because they have more fiber which is another thing that's good for dieting. (Fiber helps foods move through the body and find their way out) Berries are high in fiber yet low in calories and are great for satisgying the sweet tooth.
* Cottage Cheese -- High protein foods like cottage cheese are great for keeping you full for long periods. Low fat cottage cheese has about 90 calories and 12 grams of protein with each serving. It also pairs nicely with sweet fruits and even salads.
* Eggs -- These are packed with good-for-you netrients and don't increase your risk of heart disease as some used to think. A large egg yolk is about 56 calories and provides about 6 grams of protein.
* Potatoes -- These have a lot of potassium in them (especially in the skin) which is good for heart and kidney function, muscle contraction, and blood pressure. They have loads of fiber in them and good amounts of vitamin C and vitamin B6 as well. There are only about 80 calories in an average size potato.
Apples -- These are great on-the-go snacks. The peel of a Fuji apple is rich in ursolic acid which may help in fat burning. The Honeycrisp variety
has about 60 calories and 2 grams of fiber.

Those are all good, healthy choices. People often don't realize that potatoes are not that high in calories--it's not the potato that's the culprit, it's what we put on top of it, or if it's fried, or drowning in cheese or a highly fat-filled topping. And of course, that's the part we all like the best...we just have to rethink how to fix them.
Dieting never worked for me. The only thing that's ever worked was to change my eating habits, make better choices, and count calories. And yes, I have one cheat day weekly, but I try not to go crazy!

@MarieCoyle ........Life's too short. I'm a foodie and I will stop. I've had a good life and the powers that be can take me any time.

If I was that smart, I would have done it long ago, instead of waiting as long as I did! I still can't believe I ate my way up as far as I did. I dearly love food.

Thanks for the tips. I LOVE potatoes. Glad to hear they have some benefits. I love certain kinds of apples; but the kind I like are hard to find. Have a good evening.
