A lovely collection of china at our house-sit

This farmhouse where we are minding the animals while the owners are on holidays is another that has an interesting array of blue-and-white china. This type of china was very popular some years ago. One of the pleasures of house-sitting is seeing how others decorate their homes. It is obvious these owners love their chickens and cows as tea-towels, cushions, pictures, coffee mugs almost all have farm animals, mostly chooks (chickens) or cows, on their surfaces.

The tea-pot is especially nice. And I like the biscuit barrel at the bottom too.

Its very nice. It reminds me of my grandmother's farmhouse, she had dishes with a similar pattern.

It was very popular for a long time. I think it has a particular name but I can't think of it at the moment.

I do love blue and white china. Do people still buy china? I don’t know if they do here in the States. I know my parents received some for a wedding present, but I don’t think my sister was gifted any, nor did she buy them for or after her wedding. I still like seeing them as decorations.

I'm not sure what you mean by your question. Most people here use china crockery for their meals but mostly they would buy their own.Sometimes you might buy a special piece as a gift.

@JudyEv I am not a big fan of china, particularly white and blue.

There are other pieces around the house too, including some plates on the wall and a dinner set.

We see a lot of this in the older farmhouses where the farm has been handed down from generation to generation.

@JudyEv That's lovely. Well, my Grandma Cross didn't live in a farmhouse, but she had something very similar to that.

There is more in other places too. I guess the owner must have been collecting it for some time.

That's a lot of Blue Willow ware... The Cornish ware look like invaders. Love the Bovril poster... does it say "Health, Strength and Beauty"?

Blue Willow. That's the name I couldn't think of. And yes, the Bovril poster does say 'Health, Strength and Beauty'.

A lot that you see has an oriental pattern but some of these have Dutch bits and pieces - windmills, clogs, etc.

That's the thing, isn't it? There are nice pieces all over the house but they must all catch the dust.

Most of the places where we've house-sat have been older homes where several generations have lived.
