Hey @JudyEv did you lose a wallaby?
Evidently there was one loose in Kansas City, and was injured. He was rescued on Interstate 435.
He is not lost or escaped from a zoo. He is okay and in good hands, but no one knows to whom he belongs.
Not safe for wallabies, or kangaroos to go on walkabouts in Kansas. One year some Red Kangaroos escaped from an area zoo. They did not fare well in the winter.
I am glad this little dude is going to be okay.

Yes, busy highways are not a good place for any animals.

This is a good news story that I am pretty certain @dapizzaguy would like.

So glad it got rescued. It probably escaped from Australia while Judy and Vince were in Ireland.

You are quite likely right. No one checking the ports for runaways.1 person likes this

Yes, me too. That is an awful highway for any animal to be on.

Wow, I would not have thought they could survive the weather. Thanks for sharing the article.

@Fleura I can see how it would look similar to a muntjac. I did not realize they were native in the UK either.

Does somebody feed the wallaby as pet ? How come the owner of it didn't make an appearance ?

We are thinking someone has it as an exotic, maybe illegal pet. If it is illegal the owner certainly would not step up and claim him.

That must be the case. The wallaby is native to Australia.

If they don't I am pretty sure the Kansas City Zoo would adopt him.

I think so, too. One news outlet got it wrong, calling it a Kangaroo. Related, but not the same. I do not like the idea of exotic pets.

@LadyDuck Private homes have a hard time caring for them properly. Zoos do a good job most of the time. More and more the zoos do things to enrich their environments and give them interesting things to do.

@GardenGerty I fully agree with you about exotic pets. They do not adjust to their new environments are are unhappy.

Oh, poor little thing. Luckily he is not mine or I'd be scolding him big time. I guess he will go to a sanctuary somewhere if he isn't claimed.

Extremely so, especially since there are none missing from the zoo.
